🌊💧 Q&A with our rising star in water engineering, Graduate Rosa Twyford! 💧🌊

Q: What sparked your interest in water engineering and brought you to AECOM?
A: I came across the Natural Resources Engineering program at the University of Canterbury. It was the perfect blend of challenge and creativity inter-woven with my interest in the environment and its wellbeing. A summer internship with AECOM followed with the Christchurch Water team. The culture and chance to learn from so many knowledgeable people made it an easy choice to return as a graduate.

Q: How have you contributed to the Te Awa Kairangi (formerly known as RiverLink) project?
A: I’ve been part of both the Drainage, Water and Wastewater teams. It’s been an incredible experience balancing competing priorities and learning the importance of asking questions and supporting my teammates!

Q: Any passions outside of work that influence your approach?
A: Absolutely! I’m a keen runner and recently won the New Zealand national titles in the 800m, 1500m and Mile. The lessons from sports, like hard work and teamwork, translate directly into my engineering work!

10 of our team recently competed in the Australian Army’s Brisbane 2026 Run Army. The event showcases support for current and former serving members of the Australian Defence Force, as well as other emergency service members.

The AECOM team tackled the five-kilometre route from South Bank and through the Brisbane CBD. Our team recognised the ANZAC spirit, challenging themselves physically with their mates.

The event supports those who serve, with 100 percent of the donations going directly to charities that support emergency service personnel.

We recently joined senior school students in Brisbane for a careers networking evening.

The event exposed young students to real-world careers in the design and built environment, providing insights into tertiary and alternative pathways, and connecting them directly with industry professionals. Through these conversations, students gained a better understanding of the day-to-day of these roles, while building confidence through professional interactions.
It was a great evening made possible by the support of our people who generously shared their time and experiences to inspire the next generation.

AECOM Graduates Q&A time!

Meet Charlotte, a Graduate Engineering Geologist from our Aotearoa, New Zealand team.

Q: What sparked your interest in engineering geology and AECOM?
A: “I’ve always been drawn to the physical sciences, but geology really clicked for me during my bachelor’s degree. Understanding how landscapes form over millions of years completely hooked me. After a Master’s project on sediment dredging, I wanted real-world impact and strong development opportunities. AECOM’s grad program stood out, and from the moment I joined in 2025, it’s been an exciting ride ever since!”

Q: A moment you’re proud of?
A: “Seeing my fieldwork come to life, from mapping investigation sites to logging cores. Knowing I’m contributing to a major development shaping the Waikato region – the Hamilton Southern Links project – is both exciting and humbling.”

Q: Passions outside work?
A: “I volunteer as a surf lifeguard at Piha. It’s taught me to be calm under pressure, clear communication, and a love for the outdoors– all of which I bring to my work… even when it means early starts, wild weather and plenty of mud!” 🌊🧭

✨ Q&A Time! ✨ Meet Veena, a Project Accounting Deputy Team Lead at AECOM.

Q: How did you get started in your field? Any advice for those looking to follow a similar path?
A: I began my journey in project accounting over 13 years ago, driven by a passion for numbers and project management. Early in my career, I realized how critically accurate financial tracking is to project success, especially in large-scale engineering and construction projects.

Staying updated is key in the ever-evolving project accounting landscape. I regularly attend industry webinars and training sessions offered by AECOM and read relevant publications. This keeps me informed about best practices, new tools, and regulatory changes. Networking with peers also provides valuable insights and perspectives.

💡 Career Tip: Attention to detail and analytical thinking are crucial, but equally important is effective communication with cross-functional teams.

Our team members competed in the Paralympics Australia [TW1] Paratough Cup in Brisbane last week. The team, ‘A-come on ref!’ gave it everything they had, landing in a solid 7th place.

From wheelchair basketball and goalball to boccia and sitting volleyball, they had the chance to jump, wheel and throw themselves into a range of para-sports that both challenged and humbled them.

A special shout-out to Tim Nuttall[TW2] , voted most valuable player for his grit in diving for the ball!
