Flood Safety Starts Before the Storm ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Across Texas, flooding remains one of the most common and dangerous natural disasters, often developing faster than expected. This Texas Flood Awareness Week, is committed to helping our communities stay informed, take action early, and recover stronger after every storm.

๐Ÿ“ฒ Prepare Before the Storm
Know your flood risk, sign up for local alerts, and have an emergency kit and evacuation plan ready for your family.

๐Ÿš— Donโ€™t Risk Flooded Roads
Never walk, swim, or drive through flooded streets. Just 12 inches of water can carry away a car. If you see water on the road, turn around and stay safe.

๐ŸŒฑ From Recovery to Resilience
After a flood, stay cautious. Avoid standing water, document notable damage, and lean on available local resources as you work towards rebuilding.

Preparedness today equals safety tomorrow. For more info on flood safety practices see the link: https://zurl.co/PwppE

The Human Side of Flood Protection ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

Behind every drainage solution is a team of people who understand the real impact flooding can have on families, neighborhoods, and communities.

This Texas Flood Awareness Week, our Drainage Team are sharing personal stories, lessons learned, and why theyโ€™re passionate about creating safer, more resilient infrastructure for the future. Their experiences are a reminder that drainage design is about more than pipes and plans, itโ€™s about protecting homes, preserving livelihoods, and helping communities recover stronger after every storm. โ›ˆ๏ธ

At IEA, we remain committed to delivering thoughtful, resilient solutions that make a lasting difference for the people and places we serve.

๐Ÿ’™ Wear Blue Wednesday ๐Ÿ’™

Today, offices are wearing blue in continued support of Texas Flood Awareness Week's . Flooding is one of the most common and costly natural disasters in Texas, and awareness is crucial in saving lives.

By wearing blue, weโ€™re proud to stand with communities across Texas and highlight the work engineers do to help reduce risk and protect people and property. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

Staying on Track Starts with Strong Flood Protection ๐Ÿš†โ›ˆ๏ธ

In recognition of Texas Flood Awareness Week, weโ€™re highlighting our TEXRail Drainage Extension Design Project, and how thoughtful drainage design helps reduce flood risk and protect critical infrastructure.

provided comprehensive drainage design and H&H analysis services for the TEXRail Extension within the City of Fort Worth. We also completed a separate H&H study to support floodplain permitting and demonstrate zero-impact to the Cityโ€™s effective flood models.

Key Highlights Include:
๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ Development of a full drainage plan across three distinct rail segments
๐Ÿ™๏ธ Coordination with City of Fort Worth Stormwater, Trinity Metro, and UPRR
โ›” Zero-impact to the effective Leslie Creek flood model, despite no FEMA-mapped stream crossings

Swipe to see Kyle Moynihan, PE, CFM, discuss the complex drainage and railroad requirements IEA faced and how we ultimately delivered a zero-impact design. ๐Ÿ‘‰

Big Conversations in the Basin! ๐Ÿ’ก

Yesterday, โ€™s Carlos Valdez, PE and Jesse Fleming, PE, attended the 2026 Texas Department of Transportation Odessa District CEI Workshop. The event provided valuable updates on the Odessa and El Paso Districts, including discussions on change orders, work authorizations, and regional priorities shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in West Texas.

The program included insightful presentations by TxDOT Senior Director of District Operations, Eric Lykins, PE; TxDOT Construction Division Director, Duane Milligan, PE; TxDOT PEPS Center of Excellence Director, Dan Neal, PE; and TxDOT Odessa District Engineer, Saul Romero, PE.

It was a great opportunity to connect with other firms and continue building relationships throughout Odessa and El Paso. We appreciate TxDOT putting together a valuable and informative event. ๐Ÿ’ผ

A Mile to Stop. A Second to Decide. ๐Ÿš†

Under favorable conditions with a stopping distance of around 10 feet, a 160,000-lb locomotive at 20 mph would produce an average impact force of about 200,000 pounds during deceleration.

Even at that speed, the forces involved are significant. This is why heavy and fast-moving machinery has strict warnings and safety precautions at crossings where railroads intersect roadways. Not only do vehicles cross these areas, but pedestrians do as well.

As we continue observing , take a moment to swipe through and learn how to safely navigate rail crossings.
