Trailer Safety Tip: Always Hitch Before Working on Your Equipment

When you’re working on a trailer—especially installing or handling heavy insulation equipment—stability matters more than you might think. One simple step can make a big difference in keeping your crew safe and your job running smoothly.

Before you start working, always hitch your trailer to a vehicle.

Hitching the trailer helps stabilize it and prevents unexpected movement. Without that connection, a trailer can lurch or roll backwards, especially when weight shifts as equipment is loaded, adjusted, or serviced. That kind of movement can lead to injuries or damage that could have easily been avoided.

Taking a moment to properly hitch your trailer is a quick safety habit that protects both your crew and your equipment. It’s a small step that goes a long way on any jobsite.

Crawl Space Insulation Removal Made Efficient with VacTrailer™, CoolVac40, and Rafter Tube

Even when a job doesn’t go exactly as planned, the right equipment makes all the difference. On St. Patrick’s Day job, Barry jumped in to help Jenna by driving her rig… but it didn’t take long before he was right there helping with batts, too.

Because they couldn’t get the hose directly to the crawl space, they adapted. The batts were brought out to the driveway and fed into the system from there. And this is where the setup really shines.

Using the VacTrailer™ by Insulation Machines, the CoolVac40 insulation removal vacuum and the Rafter Tube by Cool Machines, they were able to efficiently remove whole batts with ease. This setup allows contractors to keep production moving, even when jobsite access isn’t ideal.

It’s a great example of how the right equipment can turn a challenging setup into a smooth operation. Equipment like the CoolVac40 and accessories by Cool Machines, along with the VacTrailer™ system by Insulation Machines, are built to help contractors handle real-world conditions on the job.

The VacTrailer™ is by Insulation Machines and powered by Cool Machines insulation equipment.

This was filmed in Daphne, Alabama with Extraction Pros.

Wildlife Removal and Insulation Growth: Critter Stop’s Success Story

At the 2026 Wildlife Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, we had the opportunity to catch up with Jonathan Ferreira, president of Critter Stop, a rapidly growing wildlife and pest control company with locations in Dallas, Forth Worth, and Austin, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Companies like Critter Stop often discover that wildlife removal work naturally leads to insulation opportunities. When animals invade an attic, insulation is frequently contaminated or damaged and needs to be removed and replaced. That is where the right equipment can make a big difference.

Jonathan and his team use the CoolVac27 insulation removal vacuum by Cool Machines for insulation extractions and the CM1500 insulation blower by Cool Machines for installing new insulation once the attic has been cleaned and sanitized. This combination allows wildlife control companies to expand their services and better serve homeowners dealing with attic contamination from wildlife.

Hearing how contractors like Jonathan are building successful businesses by adding insulation services is always exciting for us. Equipment like the CoolVac27 and CM1500, available from Insulation Machines, helps contractors efficiently handle both insulation removal and new insulation installation.

Why We Created the “Hey, Insulators! Podcast” Channel

As we travel the country working with insulation contractors, we have conversations every day with insulators who share valuable experience, lessons learned, and stories from the field. Many times we walk away thinking, “Other insulators need to hear this.”

That’s why we created the Hey, Insulators! Podcast YouTube channel.

Search “Hey, Insulators! Podcast” on YouTube to find conversations with real insulators sharing real experiences from the industry. Some episodes are filmed in our van while traveling, some in shops or offices, and sometimes just wherever we can set up a camera.

We also record shorter Speedcasts in our shop with Barry and Jenna, and occasionally special guests. These quick conversations come directly from conversations we have with insulators during the week or from experiences Jenna has in the field as a contractor.

Real insulators sharing real-life stories and wisdom. We learn something from every conversation, and we hope you do too.

Insulation Blower Maintenance Tip: Keep Your Blower Clean for Reliable Performance

Cellulose insulation creates a lot of fine dust during installation, it doesn’t take time for dust to build up on your insulation blower and around the machine in your truck or trailer. Taking a few moments to clean your insulation blower between jobs is one of the simplest maintenance steps you can take to keep your equipment running smoothly.

When blowing loose fill cellulose, dust settles on the machine. A quick blow-off with compressed air after each job helps remove that dust before it has a chance to build up. This simple step keeps working parts cleaner and helps maintain consistent performance from your insulation blower.

In addition to blowing the machine off after each job, it is a good idea to pull the blower away from the trailer or truck wall about once a month and vacuum behind it if the machine is being used regularly. Dust can collect behind the blower over time, and removing it helps keep your work environment cleaner and your equipment operating the way it should.

Routine cleaning only takes a few moments, but it can make a big difference in keeping your insulation equipment operating reliably from job to job. Insulation blowers and insulation equipment used by contractors across the country, including the machines shown in this video, are available from Insulation Machines.

Safety Glasses for Insulation Crews: Protect Your Eyes on Every Jobsite

Safety Saturday Tip for Insulation Contractors

When you’re blowing insulation, removing insulation with a CoolVac, or working around insulation equipment, safety glasses are one of the most important pieces of personal protective equipment your crew can wear.

Loose fill insulation materials such as cellulose and fiberglass can become airborne during installation or removal. Small particles, debris, and dust can easily get into your eyes while operating an insulation blower, using a CoolVac insulation removal vacuum, loading material into the hopper, or even cleaning equipment between jobs.

Safety glasses provide an essential barrier that protects your eyes from irritation, injury, and long-term exposure to airborne particles on the jobsite.

Contractors who make safety glasses part of their standard crew gear help reduce injuries, prevent downtime, and create a safer work environment for everyone on the job.

Simple habits like wearing safety glasses, masks, and proper protective equipment help insulation crews stay productive and safe every day.

Safety matters on every insulation job.

Have a Magnetic Tray Handy When Maintaining or Repairing Your Insulation Machine

Anyone who has taken apart an insulation blower or vacuum knows how easy it is to lose small hardware. Nuts, bolts, screws, and washers can quickly disappear while you are servicing insulation equipment.

A simple magnetic tray makes a big difference.

In this video, Barry is repairing an insulation blower and placing the screws into a magnetic tray as he removes them. When it’s time to put the machine back together, everything is right where it should be.

Magnetic trays use strong permanent magnets to hold nuts, bolts, screws, and washers securely in place. Many will even hold hardware when mounted sideways or upside down, and many have a rubber-coated base to protect painted surfaces.

Small tools like this can save time, prevent lost hardware, and make insulation equipment maintenance much easier.

Just like the insulation equipment we work on every day, the machines and equipment mentioned in this video are available from Insulation Machines.

CM1500HP Tune-Up & Crew Training with Koala Insulation of Central Atlanta

We recently spent time with the crew from Koala Insulation of Central Atlanta, Georgia, going through their CM1500HP insulation blower by Cool Machines to help get everything running smoothly again.
During our visit, we worked through several key maintenance items together and, just as importantly, trained their crew how to do these repairs themselves so they can keep production moving without waiting on outside service.

Maintenance we covered included:
• Replacing the Airlock Seals
• Installing a new rheostat
• Replacing the contactor
• Installing a new wireless remote unit

Their CM1500HP sees a lot of use, so routine maintenance is critical. When crews understand their machines and know what to look for, small issues can be handled quickly before they turn into bigger problems.

One of the things contractors appreciate about Cool Machines insulation equipment, available from Insulation Machines, is that it is designed for easy maintenance and service in the contractor’s shop or in the field, with easily accessible working parts and repairs that can be completed using tools found in an average toolbox.

It was great spending time with the Koala crew and helping them keep their CM1500HP insulation blower running strong.

High-Production Insulation Blower: CM3500XL by Cool Machines

The CM3500XL insulation blower by Cool Machines, available from Insulation Machines, is built for contractors who need both production and versatility on the job.

This powerful machine can blow up to 6,750 pounds of cellulose per hour and up to 3,000 pounds of fiberglass per hour, making it a strong choice for contractors handling attic loose fill, dense pack, and wall spray insulation. It can process cellulose, fiberglass, or mineral wool, giving crews flexibility across many types of insulation work.

The large split hopper holds up to 15 bags of cellulose or 3 bags of fiberglass, allowing crews to maintain steady production. Contractors can run both sides for attic fill or dedicate one side to wall spray recycling.

For wall spray applications, the CM3500XL can be equipped with VacPack or Vacuum Hood systems.

The VacPack includes a built-in vacuum that automatically recycles back into the machine, eliminating the need to shovel material back into the hopper or use of an external vacuum.

The Vacuum Hood uses a stand-alone insulation removal vacuum to recycle material, while also giving contractors the ability to perform attic insulation removal with the same vacuum.

Like all insulation blowers by Cool Machines, the CM3500XL is built for power, durability, and productivity, and is designed for easy maintenance in the shop or right in the field.
