25 Years of Exploration, by the

In celebration of FarSounder’s 25th anniversary, let’s hear directly from the crew who continue to push the boundaries of exploration around the world with Argos leading the way.

Featured here is MV The World of The World Residences at Sea and a perspective from Captain Dag Saevik that captures the practical value of Local History Mapping.

In addition to real-time 3D underwater perception, Argos sonars continuously create a bathymetric map of the seafloor everywhere the vessel travels. This Local History Map is recalled when returning to previous locations, helping crews navigate remote or challenging areas with greater confidence.

Customers can also choose to anonymously share this data across the FarSounder fleet, contributing to a growing aggregate map and supporting global ocean mapping initiatives like Seabed 2030.

FarSounder has expanded the capabilities of its Argos Forward Looking Navigation Sonar (FLS) by integrating with Tocaro Blue’s ProteusCore™ software. This new integration brings AI-powered Radar perception to FarSounder’s SonaSoft™ Lt navigation software, providing greater situational awareness for users navigating challenging marine environments.

The Argos 3D FLS systems deliver the power of real-time sight ahead of the vessel, below the waterline. Displaying a continuously updated 3D view of the seafloor and water column, increasing navigational safety in poorly charted or shallow waters, and challenging environments.

ProteusCore, trained on over 3 million Radar frames, transforms marine radar into an intelligent perception sensor capable of detecting, classifying, and tracking objects, supporting vessel control, collision avoidance, and safer navigation. while the Autofocus function automatically tunes radar range and gain based on sea and weather conditions, reducing manual adjustments.

2026 Marks 25 Years of Innovation in Marine Navigation Technology

FarSounder is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing mission to advance underwater perception and enhance safety at sea.

From its inception, FarSounder was driven by a clear and ambitious vision: to develop 3D forward-looking sonar technology capable of helping vessels avoid collisions with submerged hazards such as rocks, reducing the risk of groundings and oil spills, as well as marine mammals, including whales, to mitigate harmful and often fatal ship strikes.

Today, FarSounder’s Argos systems play a critical role in redefining situational awareness at sea, empowering bridge crews with the information needed to make safer, more confident decisions in increasingly complex maritime environments.

This milestone is not only a moment to reflect on past achievements, but also an opportunity to look ahead. As the maritime industry enters a new era defined by connectivity, automation, and environmental responsibility, FarSounder sees a significant opportunity to continue leading through the delivery of increasingly intelligent, integrated solutions that give crews greater confidence and control.

The company’s commitment remains unchanged: to innovate with purpose and make navigation safer for everyone at sea.

Underwater perception for modern naval operations

Matthew Zimmerman and Jacob Palmer will be heading to the UK to exhibit at this year's Combined Naval Event 2026, May 19–21 in Farnborough.

The dynamic nature of modern naval operations requires a deeper understanding of the battlespace. FarSounder’s 3D forward looking sonar delivers advanced underwater perception, helping ready today’s fleets for tomorrow's challenges.

Today, Argos sonars are helping improve unmanned and autonomous navigation, ship-to-shore pathfinding for landing crafts, and helping naval vessels access complex polar environments. Providing real-time underwater perception out to 1000m ahead while simultaneously building a map of the seafloor along its route, Argos sonars reduce risk, improve navigation, and increase domain awareness.

If you’re attending this powerful event and would like to learn more, connect with our team to schedule a meeting and stop by FarSounder’s booth D02.

Expanding the Value of Every Voyage

At Yare Networking, Matthew Zimmerman shared how FarSounder’s Crowdsourced Bathymetry Data Sharing Program is turning routine vessel operations into meaningful global impact.

Argos 3D Forward-Looking Sonar was originally developed to enhance safety, helping vessels avoid underwater hazards and protect marine life. But every system also continuously builds a detailed map of the seafloor along a vessel’s route.

With the option to anonymously contribute this data, FarSounder customers can support global ocean mapping initiatives like Seabed 2030 , with a click of a button.

Underwater perception for modern USV ops at Sea Air Space

For unmanned systems, what a vessel understands about its environment directly shapes what it can achieve. Argos 3D Forward-Looking Sonar delivers a clear, real-time view of the underwater domain up to 1000 meters ahead.

Matthew Zimmerman will be attending the show April 20-21 to connect with defense sector decision makers and industry innovators.

Connect with Matthew ahead of the show to learn how Argos 3D forward looking sonars are enabling more informed decisions for remote operators, autonomous control systems, and next-generation maritime platforms.
