A few years ago I was made the structural design for a Hanuman Temple in the Seattle Area. The Congregation invited the Architect and me to the consecration of the Temple. The Mayor, Representatives, County Council Members, and the Police Chief were present for a few then they rushed out. We stayed and were served a magnificent pot-luck feast. Then they said a prayer of blessing for us and thanked us for using our knowledge and skill to make their Temple safe for People. Think about that! And recognize that while the Law does not expect that level of care in an engineer's Work, that is the expectation and belief of People! They rely on us! And it gives a new perspective on the Standard of Care. Not just Prof. Mete Sozen speaking of the distruction and carnage in the ruins of Mexico City, or Omer Blodgett, or Roman Conul Frontinus, or The Lawgiver Hammurabi, but Hanuman! I stayed on and they shared their beliefs with me: The Story of Arjuna and the Story of Hanuman. Our first duty is to protect the life, safety and welfare of the Public. Standing before that congregation, that Duty has never been more real.

Looking forward to that day - in the not too distant future - when the Umpqua Bank business app will actually let me make a deposit using my iPhone. On that day, a task that could reasonably be expected to take upwards of (2) minutes won't consume (20) minutes. This is the way Bank of America worked and it is also the reason I took my business elsewhere.

Watched about this on Wondrium with Prof. Ressler, P.E. Brittle Fracture and fatigue loading. (21) deaths (150) injured and enormous property damage. The tank was constructed in a rush and did not have engineering.

The Great Molasses Flood, also known as the Boston Molasses Disaster,[1][2][a] was a disaster that occurred on Wednesday, January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.

We were watching Nova about the Eiffel Tower. They started talking about the "innovation" Eiffel made using the cranes to construct the upper levels. Both Pat and I thought, "Vitruvius and De Architectura" which was written in 20 to 30 BC, since we knew about this from the course on Greek and Roman Engineering from Prof. Stephen Ressler, P.E. from USMA West Point. "The most authoritative and influential edition was publicized in French in 1673 by Claude Perrault, commissioned by Jean-Baptiste Colbert in 1664." Eiffel knew about this.

Seminar from ASCE on Site-Specific Design Ground Motions as per ASCE 7-16 by Dr. Praveen Malhotra, P.E. Excellent course. Typed up my 2 pages of notes and I'm ready to do the sample problem tomorrow. This is a major shift in my approach to analysis of seismicity to the probabilistic method.
