Yesterday our crew wrapped up a filtration replacement project. The job consisted of removing 6 steel filter tanks and replacing them with three fiberglass up flow filters along with new valves and necessary piping. Another job well done by our guys giving a very clean installation while taking maintenance into account and completing the project on time and on budget.

Another side project happened today. The new ramp into the storage barn will make things easier on the forklift and finished the apron in front of the pump shop will make things a lot more convenient. Here's something we dont see every day. This pump was sent in for repair, no signs of leakage, spins smooth as the day it was new, but the inside tells a different story. Our suspicion is there was a chemical injection malfunction and this pump sat unused for sometime allowing the chemical to crystallize and actually completely block one of the sections of this impeller. This would result in reduced flow, excessive vibration and noises.

One of our customers got a new Taco, Inc.Hydroflo Pumps USA, Inc. well pump today! That bushing we made yesterday worked perfectly and got this pump into service.

Did you know a vertical turbine pump should be levelled when installed and it should be with a machinist level. This pump is 55 feet long, so any amount of unlevel in the head means the suction could be inches or feet from center 55 feet down. this causes the shafting to ride against the bearings and bushings wearing them out prematurely.

We were in need of a jump coupling from 1-1/8 shafting to 3/4 shafting for a project reusing a very old motor.

When plan A for a new coupling falls through and plan B for a machine shop to make a bushing falls through, Plan C is a 70-year-old drill press, some tooling from Amazon and a "watch this" attitude you make your own bushing because, THE JOB HAS TO GET DONE!12 to 14 thousandths of runout two feet from the coupling is pretty respectable for what we had to work with. The rough seam is from an attempt to dimple the threads to prevent the bushing from backing out, ultimately a healthy amount of Loc-tite 680 retaining compound was just what we needed.

Its not the prettiest but it will get the job done and it will last the life of the motor at which point the coupling will be replaced when a new shaft to today's standards will be supplied.
