QUESTION: True or False: Soil is the same thing as dirt.

ANSWER: False – Did you know that soil and dirt are different? Soil plays an active role in the ecosystem as it is in its rightful place outdoors. Dirt, however, is soil that has been removed from the ecosystem and, therefore, does not play a role in the ecosystem anymore (i.e., the dirt you track into your house on your shoe).

Soil is not only beneficial for plant growth, but its organisms are also responsible for the creation of antibiotics and clean drinking water, as it serves as Earth’s natural filtration system.

Rock Engineering, a UES company, provided geotechnical engineering for Dawson Elementary and is currently on-site providing construction materials testing support.

The geotechnical engineering services scope included drilling, laboratory testing, and engineering analysis of the site. Groundwater readings were taken during drilling, and samples were analyzed in our lab.

The new build includes a 12,650 square-foot slab over cartons resting on approximately 109 belled piers. Rock Engineering provided construction materials testing for concrete cylinders, grout prisms, and mortar cubes.

We are happy to be partnered with Corpus Christi Independent School District for their new educational facility!

Kicking off the City of Round Rock's Old Settlers Park Improvements project! Rock Engineering, a UES company, is currently onsite providing geotechnical engineering services alongside design engineer Kimley-Horn. Improvements for the 640-acre park will include additional water features at Rock'N River, a stage for future events, a larger pavilion structure with a restroom facility, a replacement playground, civil and electrical upgrades, six additional fields, and an expanded adult recreation complex.

Solar farms and wind turbines are expected to have a longer operational life, which means we must emphasize the quality of materials used.

Recently, we partnered with Evergreen Renewables on multiple solar sites to provide construction materials testing services. For these sites, the team prioritized energy-efficient materials and focused on the long-term integrity of these projects to provide clean energy for many years to come!
