Before you scroll, take a moment.
Twenty-five years later, we remember.
Remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost.
Remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.
Remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who showed extraordinary courage.
Remember the strangers who opened their homes, donated blood, helped others to safety, and came together to help people they had never met.
Remember the boatmen who answered the call. When Manhattan was surrounded by chaos and the bridges and tunnels were overwhelmed, tugboats, ferries, charter boats, private vessels, and their crews came together to help evacuate more than 500,000 people by sea in just nine hours. It was an extraordinary effort that became the largest boat evacuation in history.
These were ordinary people who found themselves in an extraordinary moment, and they chose to help.
And perhaps one of the most important things to remember is how, in the wake of such a horrific event, our country came together as one nation. For a time, the things that divided us seemed less important than the people standing beside us. We looked out for our neighbors, helped complete strangers, and stood together as Americans.
Twenty-five years later, may we never forget the lives lost, may we always honor the heroes, and may we remember the unity, compassion, and courage that brought us together.
🇺🇸 We will never forget.
