🌧️ POWER OUTAGE REMINDERS FOR PATIENTS WITH MEDICAL EQUIPMENT 🌧️

With tropical storm conditions expected across much of our coverage area this weekend, OxyCare Plus encourages all patients who rely on medical equipment to begin preparing now for the possibility of power outages.

💚 Patients who use oxygen: Please ensure you have an adequate backup supply of oxygen tanks and that all portable oxygen concentrators, batteries, and charging devices are fully charged and ready for use if power is lost.

💚 Patients who depend on life-sustaining medical equipment: Please make sure you have an emergency plan in place before severe weather arrives. Know what steps to take if your power goes out and who to contact for assistance.

🚨 In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

📞 OxyCare Plus will maintain our normal on-call services throughout the weekend. Our Respiratory Therapists and Equipment Technicians are available 24/7 to support our patients.

🚶‍♀️💚 **HOME SAFETY WEDNESDAY: CANE, WALKER OR ROLLATOR?** 💚

Have you ever wondered what the difference is?

Not every mobility aid is right for every person. The goal is to use equipment that provides the **appropriate level of support and stability for your individual needs.**

🦯 **CANE**

A cane generally provides the **least amount of support** of these three options. It may be helpful for someone who needs a little additional balance or stability while walking.

🚶 **WALKER**

A traditional walker provides **more stability and support** than a cane. It can be helpful for someone who needs additional assistance with balance or walking safely.

🛞 **ROLLATOR**

A rollator is a wheeled walker that allows you to move more continuously without lifting the entire device. Many rollators also have hand brakes and a built-in seat for resting.

But here's the important part:

**Bigger isn't always better — and more support isn't necessarily the right support.**

The right mobility equipment depends on your individual mobility, strength, balance, and clinical needs.

🛁💚 **HOME SAFETY WEDNESDAY: LET’S TALK BATHROOM SAFETY!** 💚

The bathroom can be one of the most challenging areas of the home when mobility or balance becomes an issue.

Water + slippery surfaces + getting in and out of the shower or tub can create a serious fall risk.

So what can you do?

🛁 **CONSIDER A SHOWER CHAIR**
If standing for long periods is difficult or you become tired or unsteady, a shower chair can provide a place to sit while bathing.

🚽 **RAISED TOILET SEATS**
Getting up and down from a low toilet can be difficult. A raised toilet seat may make that transition easier.

🤲 **GRAB BARS**
Properly installed grab bars can provide additional support when getting in and out of the shower or tub and when using the bathroom.

🧼 **REDUCE SLIPPING HAZARDS**
Keep floors as dry as possible and use appropriate non-slip surfaces.

💡 **KEEP IT WELL LIT**
Don't overlook lighting! Make sure you can clearly see where you're walking.

And most importantly...

**Don't use towel racks, shower doors, or other items that aren't designed to support your weight as a substitute for a grab bar.**

💚 OCP Staying Informed & Advocating for Better Patient Care!💚

On Monday, some of our OCP team traveled to Jackson to attend a MSAMES meeting. Representing OxyCare Plus were Megan, Owner; April, Regional Manager; Heather, Director of Billing; and Kelsey, Billing Department.

Our team spent Tuesday learning about upcoming insurance changes, industry updates, and ways we can better advocate for patient care within the DME/HME industry.

So, what exactly is MSAMES?

MSAMES stands for the Mississippi Association of Medical Equipment Suppliers. The organization represents and serves home medical equipment providers across Mississippi by providing industry education, operational resources, important updates, and legislative advocacy for companies that provide medical equipment and services to patients in their homes.

For OxyCare Plus, being involved with organizations like MSAMES is important because the DME/HME industry is constantly changing. Insurance requirements, regulations, policies, and patient needs continue to evolve, and we want our team to stay informed so we can better navigate those changes and continue providing the care our patients deserve.

At OCP, we believe investing in our employees is an investment in our patients and the communities we serve. 💚

We are proud to provide our team with opportunities to continue learning, growing, and staying involved in our industry so we can bring that knowledge back to OxyCare Plus and put it to work for our patients.

Our Columbus team brings the energy, the teamwork, and the dedication every single day! They are a dynamic group ready to serve our patients and referral partners with a smile. 👏🏼

Our Columbus location is our OCP “home base,” and this team is a BIG part of what makes OxyCare Plus so special!

At our Columbus store, you’ll find four awesome Respiratory Therapists ready to help with all of your respiratory needs, along with our Resupply Team working hard behind the scenes to make sure your supplies are processed and ready to go! 🫁

We also have an incredible group of Customer Service Representatives, Equipment Technicians, and Management who keep everything moving and make sure our patients receive the care and service they deserve.

💚 A Father & Son Duo Representing OxyCare Plus at Tri-State! 💚

OCP father and son duo, Danny and Daniel, spent time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this week attending the Tri-State Respiratory Convention!

This was their second Tri-State trip together, but this year was extra special because it was their first time attending together as both Respiratory Therapists!👏🏼

Daniel, Danny’s son, graduated from Northeast Community College in May with his Respiratory Therapy degree, went on to pass his Respiratory Therapy Boards, and is now proudly serving our community as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)! 💚

And then there’s Danny — with over 40 years as a Respiratory Therapist, including 26 years spent building OxyCare Plus, Inc. alongside former colleagues who were also Respiratory Therapists. What started 26 years ago has grown into a company built around one thing that has never changed: putting patient care first.

At OxyCare Plus, we believe respiratory therapy is about so much more than equipment. It’s about the patient behind the equipment.

That’s why we have over 15 Respiratory Therapists across our six locations, keeping clinical care at the forefront of what we do. Our RTs help ensure our patients are:

🏠💚 **HOME SAFETY WEDNESDAY: LET’S TALK FALL PREVENTION!** 💚

Did you know that many falls happen right inside the home?

Sometimes it's something as simple as a loose rug, a cord across the floor, poor lighting, or trying to move too quickly.

Here are a few simple ways to make your home safer:

🚫 **Remove tripping hazards** — Keep walkways clear of clutter, shoes, cords, and small objects.

🧶 **Watch those rugs** — Loose rugs can slide or catch your feet. Secure them properly or consider removing them.

💡 **Turn on the lights** — Make sure hallways, stairs, bedrooms, and bathrooms are well lit, especially at night.

🪜 **Use handrails** — Always use available handrails on stairs and keep stairs clear.

👟 **Wear appropriate footwear** — Supportive, well-fitting shoes can provide better stability than loose slippers or socks.

🚶 **Don't rush** — Take your time when getting up from a chair or bed. Make sure you're steady before you start walking.

🦯 **Use your mobility equipment** — If you've been prescribed a cane, walker, rollator, or other mobility aid, use it as directed.

And remember...

**A mobility aid isn't a sign that you're losing your independence. It may actually HELP you keep it.** 💚

💚 **OXYGEN SAFETY: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!** 💚

Oxygen therapy can make a tremendous difference in a person's quality of life — but it’s important to remember that **oxygen supports combustion and must be used safely.**

Here are a few important oxygen safety reminders:

🚭 **NO SMOKING around oxygen.** Keep oxygen away from ci******es, ci**rs, va**ng, and open flames.

🔥 **Keep oxygen away from heat and flames.** Never use oxygen near fireplaces, gas stoves, candles, grills, or other sources of ignition.

⚡ **Be careful with electrical equipment.** Keep oxygen equipment and tubing away from heat-producing appliances and damaged electrical cords.

🧴 **Avoid petroleum-based products.** Do not use petroleum-based lotions, creams, or ointments around the nose or face while using oxygen. Ask your healthcare provider or oxygen equipment provider about safe alternatives.

🚪 **Keep your oxygen equipment in a well-ventilated area** and never store oxygen tanks in an enclosed space such as a closet or trunk of a vehicle.

🚶‍♀️ **Be aware of your tubing.** Oxygen tubing can create a trip hazard, so keep it positioned safely and make sure everyone in the home knows it's there.

🫁 **And remember — oxygen is a medical therapy.** Your prescribed oxygen flow rate should not be changed unless directed by your healthcare provider.
