Columbus Brick's Columbus, MS plant recently had the opportunity to host architectural students from the University of Memphis for a plant tour and conversations on brick in design.
Special thank you to Professor Marika Snider, for bringing a class of architectural students to the plant! We enjoyed the visit and conversations about all things BRICK in design.

Great work by our General Shale Brick colleague in Memphis, Walker Wright, and all involved in supporting the education and learning of the design community. Columbus Brick is proud to be a part it!

PEOPLE ON THE MOVE: Brian Taylor | Production Manager | Phenix City, AL

We are excited to announce the promotion of Brian Taylor to Production Manager at our Phenix, AL location!

Born in Germany to military parents, Brian developed a strong work ethic early in life. After graduating high school, he found his career in the brick industry, starting at Bickerstaff Clay Products — now General Shale. His journey has been one of dedication and perseverance, beginning as a Kiln Fireman and steadily advancing through the ranks. Over the years, Brian has gained extensive hands-on experience by working in nearly every department, making him a well-rounded and knowledgeable leader. His expertise has not only benefited the Phenix City plants but has also contributed to various projects at other locations.

Brian’s commitment to excellence, problem-solving skills, and deep understanding of plant operations make him a valuable asset to the team. His leadership and ability to adapt to the demands of production have set a strong foundation for his new role.

Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife, Deborah, whom he has been with since 1999. A tech enthusiast, he loves building gaming PCs and diving into online gaming.

People On The Move | JT Bolus – Assistant Plant Manager | Phenix City, AL
We are excited to announce that JT Bolus has been promoted to Assistant Plant Manager at our Phenix City location. JT’s dedication, expertise, and leadership have been invaluable throughout his tenure with General Shale.

JT began his journey with General Shale in 2014 at the Mooresville, Indiana location, where he worked in maintenance and electrical. In 2016, he transitioned to the Piney Flats location, contributing significantly to yard operations while completing his degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

In February 2022, JT was promoted to Supervisor at the Fort Valley plant, where he excelled in overseeing operations. His exceptional performance earned him a promotion to Assistant Plant Manager at Fort Valley in February 2023. Now, JT is bringing his extensive experience and passion for operational excellence to his new role in Phenix City.

Outside of work, JT enjoys golfing, hunting, and cheering for Tennessee football. He also values spending quality time with his family in Johnson City whenever possible.

People On The Move | Mickey Salter – Plant Manager | Phenix City, AL

We are excited to announce that, Mickey Salter has been promoted to Plant Manager at our Phenix City, AL location. Mickey brings decades of invaluable experience and leadership to his new role, having been an integral part of our team since 1984.

Mickey began his career in Phenix City as a cleanup man after serving in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, from 1980 to 1984. His dedication, hard work, and expertise quickly set him apart, leading to his promotion to Supervisor in 1990 and then Assistant Manager in 2000. Over the years, Mickey has honed his skills while contributing to numerous plants within our organization. In 2017, he returned to Phenix City as Production Manager, where he continued to demonstrate exceptional leadership and a commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mickey is a devoted family man and when he finds time to relax, Mickey enjoys fishing, a hobby that allows him to unwind and recharge.
