I spent 40 minutes at a consultation yesterday and barely looked at the staircase.
The measurements? Those took maybe 10 minutes. The rest of the time we talked about her grandchildren visiting for Christmas, whether she still quilts in the upstairs craft room, her husband's PT schedule and what time of day he usually needs to go upstairs.
Because here's what actually matters:
Do you have grandchildren who visit? (A stairlift that's hard for a 7-year-old to walk past safely is a problem waiting to happen)
What time of day do you usually need to go upstairs? (Tells me about lighting, urgency, whether someone's home to help if needed)
Are you planning to stay in this house long-term? (Changes everything about which solution makes sense)
Do you have hobbies in the basement? (That sewing room isn't just a room — it's the difference between staying active and giving up something you love)
I've seen companies measure the stairs, quote a price, and leave in 20 minutes. Then six months later the client's calling someone else because it doesn't work for how they actually live.
The measurements matter. But I need to understand your life first — because that's what we're actually solving for.
If you or someone you know is trying to figure out how to stay home safely, let's talk. Starting with your life, not just your stairs.
