We're so glad Nolan Sebourn joined Prairie Engineers this summer! One of Nolan's favorite experiences was participating in a channel patrol on the Illinois River with our Hydro team. It was his first opportunity to work with the group, and spending the day on the water gave him a memorable look at the variety of work Prairie takes on.

Throughout his internship, Nolan also learned the importance of staying flexible. From adjusting to changing project priorities to taking on new tasks as they arose, he gained valuable experience adapting to the fast-paced nature of the engineering industry.

Thank you, Nolan, for spending your summer with us. We wish you all the best as you continue your education and future career!

It was a pleasure having Erik Neath join Prairie Engineers this summer! One of Erik's favorite experiences was working on the Metro Bus Inspection Pit project, where he had the opportunity to see much of the design process firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of how projects come together from concept to completion.

Among the many things he learned this summer, Erik's biggest takeaway was developing a stronger understanding of engineering drawings and building the skills to create them. That hands-on experience provided a valuable foundation for his future career in engineering.

Thank you, Erik, for spending your summer with us. We wish you all the best as you continue your education and professional journey!

We were excited to welcome Saw Nwe back to Prairie Engineers for another summer! During her internship, Saw enjoyed working on an asset synchronization project that automated the transfer of asset ownership and property data from SharePoint to Ninja. The experience allowed her to expand her knowledge of Power Automate, API integrations, and troubleshooting while developing a solution that improved efficiency.

One of Saw's biggest takeaways was learning that successful technology solutions require more than just writing code. Through collaborating with stakeholders and building reliable, well-documented automations, she gained a deeper understanding of how technology can solve real business challenges.

Thank you, Saw, for returning to Prairie and sharing your talents with our team. We look forward to seeing all that you'll accomplish in the future!

We're thankful Carter Velazquez spent his summer with Prairie Engineers! One of Carter's favorite experiences was working on the Lydia Avenue project, where he learned how to perform surveying work while safely operating around an active rail line and following industry regulations.

Throughout the summer, Carter also gained hands-on experience setting up and operating GNSS base and rover equipment to collect field data. Learning how to capture information at break lines, trees, and other site features helped strengthen his technical surveying skills and gave him valuable real-world experience.

Thank you, Carter, for being part of the Prairie team this summer. We wish you all the best as you continue your education and future career!

Traffic Awareness Month Spotlight: Safer Intersections Start with Better Design

Every intersection is designed with one goal in mind: helping people get where they're going safely.

Prairie Engineers is designing improvements at Sangamon Avenue and Dirksen Parkway in Springfield, Illinois, one of the city's most heavily traveled intersections. The project focuses on making the intersection safer and easier to navigate, with improvements including additional turn lanes, medians, multi-use paths, ADA-compliant sidewalks, roadway adjustments, and improved lighting.

Our team is also looking at the bigger picture, from traffic patterns and crash history to drainage, environmental considerations, and community needs, to help develop improvements that work for everyone who uses the intersection.

By bringing these pieces together, the project will create a safer, more accessible, and more efficient intersection for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Every roadway improvement represents countless engineering decisions working together to make travel safer for everyone.

We're so glad Sydney Moeller joined Prairie Engineers this summer! Throughout her internship, Sydney embraced every opportunity to learn, whether she was creating social media content, developing case histories, or diving into topics ranging from HVAC systems and prairie chickens to roadway safety.

One of Sydney's biggest takeaways was learning how to adapt her writing to different projects and audiences. By working across a variety of markets and technical topics, she strengthened her ability to communicate complex information in ways that connect with a wide range of readers.

Thank you, Sydney, for spending your summer with us. We wish you all the best as you continue your journey!
