My day job is a REALTOR at Russell Boyt Real Estate Group and helping clients buy, sell and invest in real estate in the Columbia area. www.LiveLoveMissouri.com
Steel & Grain Custom Works started as a hobby making unique furniture for clients as gifts. I have always loved modern architecture and furniture and found I had a knack for learning the techniques to make pieces for myself combining stee
l & wood. As my experience and shop has expanded, I started making additional pieces to sell as a means to raise & donate money for local non-profits. I volunteer for medical mission trips with Global First Responder, a local Columbia Non-Profit/NGO providing international medical relief around the world. Please check out www.GlobalFirstResponder.com
Volunteers on all GFR missions must fund travel for themselves, the proceeds donated directly to GFR are used to purchase supplies and materials. In 2016 I traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in October of 2017, we are heading to a remote region in Nepal that was devastated by an earthquake in 2015. I hope to volunteer on many future return missions to the Congo, Nepal and the upper Amazon as well. Steel & Grain Custom Works makes modern furniture with a twist. By locally, I mean the trees are logged and cut down, in most cases personally and here in Mid-MO. They are milled at outdoor/backyard/hidden sawmills in the fall then dried and processed in my basement for months and sometimes years. I am addicted to live edge pieces with character, AKA: knots, holes, burl, spalting and splits. The live edge is just that, the wood is slab cut with the bark/natural edge left on. After the wood has dried, the bark is removed but the surface below is left in tact. No two pieces are the same and most steel frame bases are custom designed to compliment an irregular shape. Contact me for details on current pieces available, some are on display at the RBRE office on 10th Street. Others are in various stages of completion.
