“Sticky Spaces” is a new concept that didn’t exist a decade ago. It involves creating new spaces (or redesigning old spaces) which can become a place where the usually separate elements of ‘living’ and ‘learning’ become inextricably intertwined.

This school is located near the ocean and in a mild climate focused on providing seamless integration of indoor-outdoorspaces with an emphasis on daylighting.
Combining windows and Solatubes, the school is able to almost exclusively daylight spaces and have them transition from closed to open through the use of demountable wall systems providing a full connection to the outdoors.
Using Solatubes to add daylight to the interior portion of the classrooms eliminates glare which is when contrasts of light to dark get too far apart.
The domes of the Solatubes are also sitting on a green roof.

A recent study conducted by the University of Oregon evaluated sunlight's impact on dust and germs in an indoor space. According to the research, published in the journal Microbiome, rooms exposed to daylight have fewer germs and half the viable bacteria compared with dark rooms.
