HOW TO FIX AIRBAG FAULT AFTER ACCIDENT – MERCEDES VEHICLE WON’T START

After an accident, many Mercedes-Benz vehicles may fail to start due to stored crash data in the SRS (Airbag) system. This guide will walk you through the step-by-step procedure to clear crash data and restore normal engine start, using Xentry and DTS Monaco.

STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE

Step 1: Read DTCs with Xentry
Connect your diagnostic tool to the vehicle.
Launch Xentry and access the SRS control module.
Read fault codes and identify the SRS control unit.

Step 2: Open DTS Monaco & connect to SRS ECU
Launch DTS Monaco.
Connect to the Airbag_470 ECU (this is the SRS control unit).

Step 3: Execute crash data clear functions
Select “All Clear Start” and then “All Clear Stop”.

Step 4: Connect both CR61 (engine ECU) and Airbag ECU
Make a simultaneous connection to both CR61 (engine control unit) and the airbag control unit.

Step 5–7: Access and reset crash-related signals
Locate and select "Crash Signal Airbag Control Unit".
Then, select "Crash Signal Sensor".
Next, select "Reset Irreversible Crash Bit Start".
Review "Crash Status from Airbag ECU" to confirm changes.

Step 8: Perform ECU resets
Execute both Hardware Reset and Software Reset on the SRS ECU.

Step 9: Clear DTCs and start the vehicle
Clear all remaining fault codes.
Turn ignition OFF then ON, and attempt to start the engine.
