Community Notice: Restricted Access to Hazelett Property
The safety of our employees, students, neighbors, and community members is a priority for Hazelett Corporation. Because our property has not previously been posted, individuals not affiliated with Hazelett have hunted on the land in recent years, creating safety concerns due to its proximity to school property and active manufacturing operations.
Hazelett has now posted the property and restricted its use during Vermont’s deer hunting season. Only Hazelett employees selected through a controlled lottery program and strict guidelines may hunt in designated areas. Hunting is limited to archery equipment only, fi****ms and muzzleloaders are strictly prohibited.
To reduce conflicts with school activities, Hazelett employees will not be permitted to hunt on company property between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Authorized employees may hunt outside those hours, but only during Vermont’s legal hunting hours. These restrictions will remain in place through December 15, 2026.
The school and community may continue to use the designated trails for walking, running, biking, and other school-permitted activities, but only Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hunting by members of the public is not allowed anywhere on Hazelett property at any time.
Hazelett has worked closely with the Colchester School District and Colchester High School to establish appropriate safety precautions. The school uses portions of Hazelett property for several activities during the school day, as well as some after-school programs. We urge everyone to respect all posted signs and property boundaries. Unauthorized hunting or access in these areas could pose a serious risk to students, school employees, and other members of the community.
Hunters should confirm property boundaries by using Hazelett’s posted signs and designated hunting map. Third-party hunting and mapping applications may contain outdated or inaccurate property information and should not be relied upon to determine where hunting is permitted.
As a reminder, Hazelett’s parking lots, manufacturing grounds, and operational areas are never open for recreational use. Unauthorized bicycles, e-bikes, pedestrians, or other recreational activity in these areas creates serious safety risks due to regular traffic from tractor-trailers, forklifts, company vehicles, and employee vehicles.
