🏗️ TCR Legacy | Record Superload Move — 2006

In January 2006, Taylor Crane & Rigging took on a challenging relocation project in Columbus, Kansas, moving a 300-ton generator and 250-ton turbine from rail delivery to their new foundations.

When the original transportation route proved unable to support the heavy rail cars, the TCR team developed an alternative solution — including modifications that allowed the transport trailer deck to serve as a “bridge jumper” across a 15-ton capacity county bridge.

The generator was transported on 19 axles with a gross weight of 788,590 pounds. At the time, the Kansas Department of Transportation determined it was the heaviest load ever moved on county and state roads in Kansas.

The project was completed as planned, without incident or injury.

More than 20 years later, projects like this remain part of the experience behind Taylor Crane & Rigging.

Our team provided crane support for a rooftop unit replacement using a 265-ton hydraulic crane, configured with a 72-foot jib and working at a radius of up to 190 feet.

Rigging equipment should be inspected before every use. Slings, chains, hooks, shackles, and other components must be checked for wear, damage, deformation, or anything that could compromise a safe lift.

In 2005, Taylor Crane & Rigging completed the transportation and installation of a 334,000-pound turbine generator for Fairbanks Morse Engine Co., moving it from Manhattan, Kansas, to Clay Center, Kansas. The project earned the prestigious SC&RA Rigging Job of the Year Award, recognizing the engineering, planning, and ex*****on behind one of our most significant accomplishments.

From custom-engineered rigging solutions and a 600-ton jacking system to the precise installation of the generator, every step reflected the values that continue to define TCR today—safety, innovation, and excellence.
