Shop evolution in action.

When I first set up the shop, my Makita router setup on the Onefinity was… let’s just say functional. A chunk of wood strapped on top got the job done at the time.

I finally carved out some time to scan the mounted Makita router and bring that scan data into SolidWorks. From there, I was able to design and have a custom 3D cover printed that actually fits my setup the way it should. Big upgrade in both fit and finish.

This is a perfect example of how working from scan data or STL files can improve fitment, reduce guesswork, and speed up prototyping. It doesn’t always mean “one try and done” — but it definitely stacks the odds in your favor and saves time in the long run.

If you need help turning scan data or mesh files into usable SolidWorks parts, I offer that as a service. You’ll receive all the final files, and I can make revisions as needed to get things dialed in.

From concept to completion.

This project began with AI-generated concept images supplied by the customer. I then made the necessary modifications to adapt the design for CarveCo Maker, ensuring it was fully manufacturable on my CNC.

The result is a custom cherry plaque, precision-carved and finished with Walrus Oil to enhance the natural warmth and grain of the wood. See the project timeline, followed by the finished piece.
