Surfacing question I get every week: pour-in-place rubber/artificial turf vs. engineered wood fiber. Honest breakdown:

Pour-in-place rubber/artificial turf:
• Higher cost up front
• ADA compliant out of the box
• Drains in minutes
• 10+ year lifespan with minimal annual maintenance

Engineered wood fiber:
• Lower cost up front
• Needs annual top-offs
• Displaces in busy zones
• Still ADA compliant if maintained well

Both work. Picking the right one is about your budget, as well as your maintenance plan.

Walked through Centennial Park in Waukee this week — the Wabash Valley benches and tables we installed back in 2023 still look brand new. Three Iowa winters, full sun, kids climbing all over them. They hold up. About half of our park projects end up with their amenities for exactly this reason.

A lot of what we do happens before you ever see a brochure. Drainage checks. Utility line locates. Standing on a site at 7 AM trying to figure out where the afternoon sun lands. The boring upfront work is what makes install week look easy. People ask why our projects don’t have surprises — this is why.

Install update at Linnan in Park in Clive. Month 1, full crews, equipment going from boxed to bolted. Swipe through the progress — it’s wild watching it come together. June is National Playground Safety Month. Three things to check at your playground this week:

1. Surfacing depth at the busy spots — under swings, at the bottom of slides
2. Loose bolts and worn hardware where climbers and decks connect
3. Any rust or sharp edges on equipment that took a hit this winter

First Monday of June and we’re hitting the ground running. Just wrapped up Holiday Park over in West Des Moines last week. There’s something about one of the first big installs of the summer — the crew’s sharp, the weather cooperates, and the kids get a few full months on it before school starts back up. A common question we get: how long does a playground really last? With good surfacing and proper maintenance, 25-30 years is very realistic. Skimp on the install and you’re shopping again in 7. That’s why we’re picky about how things get put in the ground.
