A huge thank you to Thomas Ferrella for his support of the Building our Legacy campaign, which enabled us to build a new bridge to Tamarack Island!

Installed by ‘Custom Bridges and Boardwalks’, the new structure is ADA compliant, making it less steep than the previous bridge and ensuring better access for everyone to explore the island. We look forward to the many families who will pause along the railing, scanning the pond for wildlife and enjoying time in nature. 🐢🐸🦆

Happy to have manufactured the boardwalk kits that the Newport Wilderness Society installed in 2022 and 2023. Nice work!

The wetland area around the Fern Trail at Newport State Park floods seasonally from April to mid-June. When the former ground-level boardwalk was in place, the trail would be submerged in water for most of the spring.

The old boardwalk was removed, and an 1,800-foot elevated boardwalk has been constructed in its place, which is what you see here.

This new boardwalk is situated far enough off of the ground that the trail is now passable year-round. The Fern Trail boardwalk project is a win for Newport’s wilderness ecosystem and dry socks.

Fern Trail starts at Parking Area 3 and connects with the Europe Bay Trail to create a 1.2-mile loop. Visitors will travel through the park’s woodland environment and a wetland fern grotto on the wide, flat trail. With a combination of boardwalk and crushed limestone surface, the trail is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

Custom is proud to be supplying components for the boardwalks and bridges that will be installed this weekend by volunteers with the Ice Age Trail Alliance In Cross Plains.

This is the 6th project just this year that the ice age trail used our boardwalk footings. These easy to install components are environmentally friendly and provide a long term stable boardwalk for the trail.
