Covax Design Honored at 13th Annual Addison Mizner Awards

We are thrilled to announce that Covax Design has been recognized at the 13th Annual Addison Mizner Awards, hosted by the Florida Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA). This prestigious award celebrates excellence in classical and traditional architecture, and we are honored to be among this year’s recipients.  

The Addison Mizner Awards, established in 2012, acknowledge the achievements of the finest practitioners in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urbanism, craftsmanship, and construction across Florida. The 13th annual ceremony takes place on April 26, 2025, at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the ICAA Florida Chapter for this honor and for their unwavering commitment to promoting the classical tradition in contemporary design. Their dedication to education and the advancement of classical architecture enriches our professional community. 

We also congratulate our fellow award recipients whose exceptional work continues to inspire and elevate the standards of our industry. Together, we contribute to a built environment that honors tradition while embracing innovation.

Last night, we had the honor of celebrating the 2024 McKim, Mead & White Awards at the Metropolitan Club of New York, hosted by the .

We are deeply grateful to have been recognized in the Craftsmanship & Artisanship category for our project, “The Restoration and Recreation of Ironwork at a Private Residence: A Journey Through Time with Samuel Yellin’s Masterpieces.”
Zoltan Kovacs and Gabor Szombathy proudly accepted this award on behalf of Covax Design & Atelier.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible talent and dedication of our team. Our heartfelt thanks go to Szabolcs Nemeth, Anita Kovacs and our talented team, including Zoltan Nemeth, Miklos Gyulavari, Sandor Magyar, and Serhii Polubotko, whose dedication and skill made this achievement possible. We are truly grateful for their contributions to this journey of preserving and celebrating historical craftsmanship.

Covax Design & Atelier is proud to announce that we have been honored with the prestigious 2024 McKim, Mead & White Award in the Craftsmanship & Artisanship category. This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving historical craftsmanship and our dedication to excellence in restoration and traditional blacksmithing.

Our award-winning submission, The Restoration and Recreation of Ironwork at a Private Residence: A Journey Through Time with Samuel Yellin’s Masterpieces, focused on reviving and safeguarding the intricate ironwork of the renowned blacksmith Samuel Yellin. The project took place at a historic private residence in Florida, where Yellin’s original iron elements—crafted in the early 1920s—included garden gates, fences, balcony railings, sconces, light fixtures, and various ornamental details.

The primary goal was to restore these elements to their original splendor while ensuring their structural integrity and longevity. Through the architect’s vision, combined with our technical expertise and deep respect for Yellin’s artistry, we successfully restored the residence’s historical grandeur and created new ironworks that seamlessly blended into Yellin’s legacy.

One of the most notable aspects of the project was the recreation of two sets of garden gates that had disappeared over time. During our research, we discovered an original pair at the Curtis Institute of Music. After receiving permission to restore them, we used these gates as a reference to hand-forge precise replicas, which have now been installed at the residence.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Robert A.M. Stern Architects, LLP for their visionary design and collaboration, to Henkelman Construction, Inc. for their exceptional craftsmanship and commitment throughout the project, and to the residence’s owner for their unwavering support in preserving this piece of history. We also extend a special thanks to the University of Pennsylvania / Department of Historic Preservation for their invaluable support and access to the Samuel Yellin archives, drawings, and photographs, which were crucial for the research and the faithful recreation of Yellin’s work.

We are deeply grateful to the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art for this recognition. This award is dedicated to all who believe in the enduring value of true craftsmanship and historical preservation.

We are honored to receive this award and look forward to celebrating at the Metropolitan Club of New York on December 4th. We also extend our congratulations to the other award recipients across different categories, whose exceptional work continues to uphold the highest standards of design, architecture, and preservation.
