Cleveland-Cliffs held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Stainless Steel Bright Annealing Line at Coshocton Works in Coshocton, OH. Hosted by Cleveland-Cliffs Chairman, President & CEO Lourenco Goncalves, the event was attended by key elected Ohio officials, including Governor Mike DeWine, Senator Jon Husted, and Secretary of State Frank LaRose, as well as Cleveland-Cliffs’ executives, employees, UAW representatives and key customers.

The new annealing line, a $150 million capital investment, will supply premium stainless steel for high-end automotive and critical appliance applications. It uses a 100% hydrogen atmosphere, replacing the conventional acid-based processing, and includes a hydrogen recovery unit to use a 50/50 mix of new and used hydrogen in the process.

Over the past five years, Cleveland-Cliffs has contributed more than $3 million to organizations dedicated to fighting hunger. This year, our employees once again rose to the challenge and collected 415,000 pounds of non-perishable food items during our 2025 Souper Bowl Drive. This impressive collection of non-perishable food collected represents a 25% increase over last year’s donation, which will provide thousands of meals to those in need.

The food items were distributed to 44 local food banks and pantries serving 45 communities where employees work and live. In addition to the donations from employees, The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation distributed $250,000 to food banks serving our communities to further support those in need. Below are just a few of the donations collected across our operations.

Cleveland-Cliffs hosted Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Assistant Secretary for Mine Health and Safety Chris Williamson at its Tilden Mine in Negaunee MI.

After taking a tour of the open-pit iron ore mine, the visitors joined Chief Operating Officer Cliff Smith, Chief Financial Officer Celso Goncalves, union and business leaders, mine workers, and safety experts for a roundtable discussion on how federal investments and policies promote "Made In America" products and good jobs in U.S. manufacturers’ steel supply chains. During the roundtable, participants discussed the essential contributions of Michigan miners to the U.S. manufacturing economy.

Cleveland-Cliffs hosted United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su, Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, together with the Director of District 10 of the United Steelworkers (USW) Bernie Hall, at its Coatesville, PA mill. This visit followed USTR’s recent final determination relating to increased Section 301 tariffs on imports of steel, electric vehicles and various manufacturing components from China. Cleveland-Cliffs to Build New State-of-the-Art Electrical Transformer Production Plant in Weirton, West Virginia

Cleveland-Cliffs’ announced an investment to repurpose its Half Moon Warehouse in Weirton, WV to commence production of three-phase distribution transformers used in electric power distribution systems. The total capital investment is $150 million, of which $50 million (or one third) will be granted by the state of West Virginia to Cliffs through a forgivable loan. Cliffs expects the new plant to come online in the first half of 2026.

Wendell Carter, Executive Vice President, Technology, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. participated as a panelist at the 2024 AISTech Town Hall Forum. The theme of this year’s Forum was Sustainable Optimism. Wendell discussed Cliffs’ efforts to decarbonize steel production and sustainability topics impacting the steel industry today.

Cleveland-Cliffs recently hosted Dept. of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm at its Butler Works plant in Pennsylvania. The Secretary’s visit followed the recent DOE final transformer efficiency standard rule providing for the continued utilization of Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel (GOES) in virtually all of electrical distribution transformer end markets. Cleveland-Cliffs is the sole producer of GOES in the United States, and was selected for award negotiations for up to $75 million in total funding from the DOE to pursue a decarbonization investment at Butler Works.

During the visit, Secretary Granholm toured the plant and met with Cleveland-Cliffs’ Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Lourenco Goncalves, company officials, employees as well as union leaders from the United Auto Workers (UAW), the United Steelworkers (USW) and the International Association of Machinists (IAM).

The Sustainability Report 2023 details how Cleveland-Cliffs’ steel products help advance the transition to a low-carbon economy, providing updates and highlights related to Cleveland-Cliffs’ most important sustainability topics, including climate and GHG emissions, water, waste, talent management, labor and community relations, health and safety, and corporate governance. The Report includes a Performance Metrics table that presents 3-year trended data on a comprehensive set of sustainability metrics.
