🌿 Spring is here… and so is algae season! 🌿

As temperatures rise, algae growth kicks into high gear in ponds. One of the most effective ways to keep your water clear and healthy is by controlling phosphate levels.

💧 Why phosphates matter:
Phosphates are the #1 food source for algae. When levels climb, algae thrives.

✅ What you can do:
Keep phosphate levels (PPM) as close to zero as possible to limit algae growth and make your pond easier to maintain.

💡 Bonus tip:
Adding a UV filter (UV light) can be a game changer. UV clarifiers help eliminate free-floating algae, keeping your water clearer while you control nutrients like phosphates.

🚫 While this won’t completely eliminate algae, it significantly reduces how aggressive it becomes.

❄️ Winter Koi Care Reminder ❄️

Please don’t feed your koi when the water is cold.

As water temperatures drop below 50°F, koi cannot properly metabolize food. Their digestion slows to a near stop, and uneaten or partially digested food can rot in their gut, leading to serious illness—or worse.

🐟 What happens if you feed in cold water?
• Food sits undigested
• Increased risk of infection
• Water quality declines
• Stress on already slowed immune systems

✅ Best practice:
If the pond water is consistently below 50°F, stop feeding entirely. Your koi will rely on stored energy until temperatures rise again.

💡 When in doubt, it’s safer not to feed.
