Choosing an apprenticeship should be something a young person announces with pride. It takes years of learning, mistakes, early starts and hands-on experience to become someone people trust to build their home, fix their roof or keep their lights on.

Parents, teachers and careers advisers should celebrate that ambition just as loudly as a university place. There’s a future worth backing in a pair of work boots. 👏

Haley Billings from Philipsburg-Osceola, a Masonry Construction student at CCCTC, is putting her skills to work as she builds a lead!

In masonry, building a lead means constructing a small section of brick or block wall at the corner. The lead serves as a guide for the rest of the wall, helping ensure the courses stay level, straight, and properly aligned as the wall is built. This is an important skill for masons because accuracy at the corners helps keep the entire wall strong, stable, and professional-looking.

Through hands-on training at CCCTC, students like Haley are developing the skills and techniques needed to succeed in the construction industry. Great work, Haley!

Keep up the good work Leium!

Clearfield Area High School junior Leium Mayhew is gaining hands-on experience in the Masonry Construction program at CCCTC. Leium is working on his first wall, learning how to properly lay block to the line and keep each course straight and level. Masonry students build important skills through hands-on projects while learning about bricklaying, block work, mortar, concrete and other construction techniques.

Experiences like this help students develop the precision, patience and confidence needed to succeed in the skilled trades.
