Long post warning. It's been the most challenging season I've ever encountered racing with the ACT Late Models at Thunder Road International Speedbowl but it's also been extremely rewarding.
I struggled to get a comfortable car under Cody Schoolcraft and he struggled to find a good feel for the track the first several weeks. It wasn't without effort, blood sweat and tears. There has been ups and downs for sure. One thing I can always say is Cody takes care of the car. That's important as a rookie especially. Because we didn't have to spend the week to repair it we could work on it. Try stuff. Even stare at it and make finger gestures if necessary. That's how it's been.
You see ... We do this deal ourselves. This car hasn't been set up by anyone but us in our shop. We have definitely had some help from the chassis manufacturer and several very respected friends and colleagues via phone/web but that's about it. Sometimes that has totally shown itself as a shortcoming. But that's just how we work. I believe racecars require pain to perform. The incredible field at TRoad makes that pain a little more real at times. It's humbling.
A couple weeks ago we made some changes that were very favorable to Cody and the overall feel for the car. It's definitely not perfect but we are headed towards less murky waters. That set us up for our best race night yet in front of a massive crowd. Cody led some and finished an amazing p5 in the feature!
I just wanted to update everyone and thank y'all for the support. My phone was blown up within 5 minutes of the race ending and it didn't stop for a couple days. That encouragement is food for the soul.
It ain't over yet!
