Service Above Self, in action. 💙

Last week, Building Value's Brieann Sherlock (Business Development Manager) and Elijah McKenzie (Marketing Specialist) rolled up their sleeves, and put on their hairnets, for the Rotary Club of Cincinnati's Do Days meal packing event at A Child's Hope Int'l in Sharonville.

Alongside fellow Rotarians and community volunteers, we scooped, weighed, sealed and boxed meals at assembly-line speed. Together, volunteers packed more than 40,000 pounds of food for children and families here in the United States and around the world.

At Building Value, our mission centers on building careers and keeping materials out of the landfill. But days like this are a reminder that we're part of something bigger: a Cincinnati community that shows up for one another.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Cincinnati for organizing and to A Child's Hope International for the work they do every day to help children thrive.

From salvage to sea life 🐙🌊

Our amazing customer Carolyn ( on Instagram) grabbed a vintage six-pane window from our store, filled each pane with prints from an old Italian sea life calendar, and hung it on chains. Starfish, coral, octopus, all framed in rustic white panels. 😍

Her verdict? "It was easy and fun." Her friends love it, and so do we.

Each Saturday, we pick one big, remarkable find from our store and give it the spotlight. This week’s star is this gilded crystal chandelier.

Ever dreamed of a storybook Tudor roof? 🏰✨

Those rich, earthy clay roofs you see on Tudor-style homes are often the work of Ludowici, one of the most respected names in American clay roof tile. Ludowici tiles cover the historic, Tudor-style buildings at Principia College, designed by famed architect Bernard Maybeck in the 1930s, where crews have been restoring the roofs to match his original vision.

Now here's the fun part: we have roughly 5,000 vintage Ludowici clay roof tiles across 25 pallets, enough to cover an estimated 4,000 sq ft of roof. At just 10 cents a tile, the whole lot comes to around $600.

Somebody's grandma kept her good dishes in this hutch... and now it's your turn.

This mid-century beauty stands 5'9" tall, 2'8" wide and just 1' deep, so it's slim enough to tuck into a kitchen corner or dining nook. It has glass-front doors up top, three tiers of shelving, a trio of drawers and a two-door cabinet down below. Add those classic chrome swoop pulls, a scalloped base, and vintage red checked shelf liner, and you've got yourself a piece with some serious charm.

This week is Construction Inclusion Week, and October is Careers in Construction Month, so we're celebrating TWO Building Value graduates who are proving what's possible when someone gets a real opportunity to build a career.

DeAndre Estala is working with Nelson Stark Company, a Cincinnati commercial plumbing and site development firm. He recently tested and interviewed with UA Local Union 392 Plumbers, Pipefitters, & Mechanical Equipment Service and ranked 3rd in his upcoming plumbing apprenticeship class. That's a five-year, earn-while-you-learn path toward becoming a licensed plumber.

Destiny Jackson is a carpentry apprentice with Messer Construction Co., currently working on the Procter & Gamble expansion in Mason, OH. As a single mother looking for a career change, she found her path through Building Value's Construction Training Program, and she's become a remarkable presence on the job site.

Both DeAndre and Destiny are part of the Urban Workforce Development Initiative (UWDI), a partnership between Messer Construction and Building Value that gives our graduates the opportunity to showcase their skills and earn full-time roles in the industry.

Thank you to Nelson Stark, UA Local 392 and Messer Construction for opening doors and investing in the next generation of skilled tradespeople! 💚
