Industrial facilities handling flammable materials can’t afford lightning-related downtime.
As Sherwin-Williams expanded operations at its Bowling Green, Kentucky manufacturing facility, the company sought a modern approach to protecting newly added flammable storage infrastructure.
Encore Land & Sea installed two CMCE-120 Lightning Suppression Systems to create a dome of lightning-free protection over critical operational areas and storage tanks.
Traditional lightning protection systems are designed to attract and ground lightning after strike formation occurs.
The CMCE approach focuses on lightning strike prevention by reducing the electrical conditions associated with lightning strike formation around protected infrastructure.
For industrial operations, the stakes can include:
• operational disruption
• infrastructure damage
• production downtime
• fire risk
• critical asset exposure
Modern industrial operations require modern lightning protection strategies.
Prevent lightning strike formation. Protect critical operations.

Lightning doesn't wait for a convenient time to strike.

For critical infrastructure, commercial properties, residential communities, and waterfront developments, downtime can mean costly repairs, operational disruption, and unexpected risk.

CMCE Lightning Suppressor technology takes a proactive approach by removing the electrical conditions that lead to lightning formation within the protected area.

Protect what matters before the storm arrives.

From high-rise buildings and wastewater facilities to marine and coastal infrastructure, operational continuity matters.

Onne lightning-related event can cause:

• Equipment damage
• Communications failure
• Operational disruption
• Costly downtime
• Infrastructure vulnerability

The future of lightning protection is no longer just about surviving a strike after it occurs.

It’s about protecting critical infrastructure before disruption happens.

Prevent lightning strike formation. Protect what matters most.

Lightning protection is evolving.

Instead of attracting lightning after it forms, the CMCE Lightning Suppressor is designed to continuously pull and dissipate positive and negative ions within the coverage area, creating a protective dome around the structure.

From coastal high-rises and industrial facilities to residential homes, entertainment vessels, and private yachts, CMCE technology provides flexible land and marine installation options while integrating with existing grounding systems utilizing copper conductors and grounding resistance below 5 ohms.

CASE STUDY - CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL
CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE LIGHTNING PROTECTION
PROTECTING ESSENTIAL MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS FROM LIGHTNING

THE CHALLENGE
Cape Canaveral experienced repeated lightning-related damage to critical infrastructure, causing disruption, equipment loss, and insurance claims.

In Summer 2021, lightning severely damaged the Water Reclamation Facility, which treats municipal wastewater. The strike caused telecom loss, failed monitoring devices, pump damage, SCADA failure, and emergency 24-hour staffing.

Claim total:
$76,316

In March 2022, another event at City Hall caused more infrastructure damage, employee vehicle damage, and over $7,000 in added claims.

THE RISK
Lightning can disrupt utilities, wastewater operations, SCADA systems, communications, monitoring controls, emergency response, and operational continuity.
Sensitive electronics and controls are increasingly vulnerable to lightning-related events.

THE SOLUTION
To help modernize the City’s lightning protection strategy, the City evaluated advanced lightning suppression technology designed to address electrical field conditions associated with lightning formation.
✔ Protecting critical municipal infrastructure
✔ Reducing vulnerability of sensitive electronics
✔ Supporting operational continuity
✔ Enhancing protection for critical utility systems
✔ Integrating with existing grounding infrastructure

WHY IT MATTERS
Modern infrastructure depends on automation, monitoring, telecom, controls, and uptime.
One lightning event can create service interruption, safety concerns, emergency staffing, and major repair costs.

RESULTS & BENEFITS
✔ Enhanced infrastructure protection
✔ Reduced operational vulnerability
✔ Stronger continuity planning
✔ Greater lightning-risk awareness
✔ Modernized municipal protection

When a city invests in protection, it’s not just protecting buildings, it’s protecting the services behind them.

Panama City, Florida equipped seven key municipal buildings with CMCE Lightning Suppressors, adding a modern layer of protection for the infrastructure the community relies on every day.

The CMCE is designed to help create a balanced electric environment within its protected area, removing the conditions that allow lightning to form over the structure, instead of waiting to receive a strike.

For municipalities, that can mean stronger protection for critical equipment, reduced risk of downtime, and greater resiliency when severe weather moves through.

What is the best lightning protection for commercial buildings?
It starts with one question:
Are you protecting a building from the 1700s — or the one that was built in the modern world, operating with electricity?
Traditional lightning rods were engineered for a world without elevators, HVAC systems, fire panels, access controls, or data infrastructure. They were designed to redirect a strike after it hits, thus attracting and grounding a strike. That was the right solution for that era.
But modern commercial buildings are essentially giant electrical networks.
A single lightning event today can cascade through every connected system in your facility — damaging equipment, disrupting tenant operations, and creating liability exposure that no rod on a rooftop was ever designed to address.
That's exactly why the CMCE Lightning Suppressor exists.
Rather than waiting for a strike to occur, the CMCE creates a dome of lightning free protection by draining the atmosphere of the electrical charge that forms a lightning strike — a modern approach built specifically for modern infrastructure. Lightning attraction vs. lightning prevention. A 300-year old solution vs. modern technology.
For high-rise buildings, resorts, marinas, and industrial facilities across Florida, the question is no longer whether your building has lightning rods.
The question is when will you upgrade your protection system to reflect modern technology?
One device. Engineered for the buildings we actually operate today.
Learn how the CMCE Lightning Suppressor is being deployed across Florida's most demanding commercial properties. 👇
