Sharpening my wife’s knives. Went pretty fast as we don’t ever let them get too far gone. Yes, I do think about how my wife’s favorite knives are these store bought Mercer knives and not my custom ones. But she had these before we got married and has been using them a decade longer than I have been making chef knives.

Here is a, somewhat fast edit, of the finishing process for a handle. This starts after the epoxy has cured overnight.

Just finished this black walnut handle. Wet sanded up to 1000 grit then hit with three layer of tru oil, polishing with 0000 steel wool between each layer.

How I shape the front of the handle before glue up. You can’t work on this area of the handle after glue up without scratching or messing up the ricasso, so it has to be done now.

Furring the hammer in at my shop over the weekend, 12 individuals had the chance to take a class on how to make knives. There were two separate classes going on at the same time with their own instructors, and here is what it looked like at the end on day 1. All blades heat treated, tempered, ground, and handled, letting the epoxy dry over night.

Test the heat treat of some knives at the Texas Knifemakers Guild Hammer-In.

For the EDC cutting competition this time, I used a BROKEN knife that was quickly reground to a **somewhat** useable blade. Had a great weekend hosting a Texas Knifemakers Hammer-In. There’s was lots of classes, hands on teaching, and demonstrations, ending with the EDC cutting competition.
