Built in 1974, the Evanston Ecology Center has welcomed generations of residents, serving as a place to learn, connect, and explore the natural world. STRUXC managed the renovation of the Center, which was completely redesigned to include a new reception area, new offices, a new kitchen, and upgrades to the existing bathrooms. The redesign features a welcome desk, new finishes, modern lighting, and a more efficient layout.

The renovations went beyond aesthetics. The years had taken a toll on the building’s structural framing, which was constructed over a damp crawl space. The flooring was replaced, and a new concrete slab was placed over a new waterproofing system. Other renovations included a new roof system and extensive utility upgrades. Technical upgrades included an all-new electric HVAC system and state-of-the-art vacuum-insulated roof panels to enhance energy performance and meet the city’s LEED Gold Certification.

Through careful coordination and collaboration with Central Rug and Carpet, Nurture Architects, and the City of Evanston, STRUXC successfully helped deliver a durable and energy-efficient facility that will continue to support community programs for many years.

STRUXC joined the Village of River Grove in celebrating the groundbreaking for the new River Grove Public Library.

This adaptive reuse project will transform an abandoned grocery store into a modern library, complete with interior and exterior upgrades to create a welcoming and accessible space. We’re proud to be working alongside CCS International and DAE Group on this project. A special thanks to the Library Board for trusting us with this project and to Library Director Scott Grotto and the Village of River Grove for their partnership in bringing new life to this building and creating a space for the community!

STRUXC-JASA (our MBE certified group) partnered with Friends of Brennemann to contribute to their mission at Brennemann Elementary School. Friends of Brennemann is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging funding gaps to provide resources for students and staff. The organization’s president recognized the need to update the school’s outdated teacher’s lounge and brought together community support to bring the project to life.

As part of the effort, STRUXC-JASA collaborated with Amberleaf Home to install brand-new custom cabinetry — filling an important gap in the renovation that Chicago Public Schools was unable to fund. This renovation will create a refreshed and welcoming space for teachers to enjoy.

Located in Chicago’s vibrant Roscoe Village neighborhood, the Lathrop Homes project addressed the need for a prime amenity space that would be accessible to all residents and foster a stronger sense of community.

STRUXC led the construction project, converting approximately 1,300 SF of raw space into a fully functional and inviting environment. Working in close collaboration, STRUXC-JASA completed all rough and finish carpentry within the new business center.

This transformation included the installation of a new HVAC system to ensure year-round comfort, along with the addition of modern bathrooms, a community kitchen, and a fully equipped business center. These enhancements were thoughtfully designed to serve the residents by providing both practical amenities and a professional workspace that meets today’s evolving needs.
