Wolf Point Engineers & Contractors, a Division of NAFCO, recently completed substantial completion of the Conveyors 10 & 11 Replacement Project at the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company Sooner Generating Station near Red Rock, Oklahoma. The contract was awarded to Wolf Point/NAFCO in February 2019. The project consisted of replacing the aging walk-through galleries, support structures and over 2,100-foot-long, 36-inch- wide 740 TPH plant-feed conveyors 10 & 11 with completely new conveyors, 12.5-foot-diameter tubular galleries, chutes & new foundations. Wolf Point’s scope of work included engineering, procurement, fabrication, demolition and installation. The tubular galleries contain two 36-inch-wide conveyors with a maintenance walkway between them. Fabrication was done at NAFCO’s Cullman, Alabama, fabrication facility. The tubular galleries were fabricated and shipped in 40-foot-sections. Shop assembly to the greatest extent possible included the installation of conveyor stringers, idlers and walkway, explosion venting, louvers, as well as some of the piping systems.

Wolf Point also provided deep foundations, chutework, electrical systems, dust control, gallery ventilation, wash-down and fire protection and explosion venting systems.

Sooner Station is an operating power plant. The project was scheduled around a planned outage beginning in February 2020. Demolition of the existing conveyors & installation of the new conveyors and tubular galleries occurred during the ten-week outage.

The conveyor system handles Powder River Basin (PRB) sub-bituminous coal.

David Y. Fong, with Wolf Point Engineers & Contractors, has retired after a 47 year career managing bulk material handling and coal beneficiation projects. Upon graduating from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Architectural Technology Dave was employed by a structural steel fabricator prior to joining Roberts & Schaefer Company in 1983. During his career at R&S he worked in the estimating & engineering departments prior to being promoted to Vice President of Construction Management. In 2013 Dave joined Wolf Point Engineers & Contractors as Senior Vice President & General Manager. Wolf Point was an off-shoot of Roberts & Schaefer. Dave was instrumental in Wolf Point becoming a Division of North Alabama Fabricating Company, Inc. (NAFCO). Through Dave’s leadership the company completed major projects for clients such as Orascom USA, Oxbow Carbon & Minerals, Turn-Key Processing Solutions, Wood Plc, TVA, Georgia Power and Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company. Dave’s role was significant in positioning Wolf Point has a leader in the bulk material handling industry.

Watch the NASA Space Launch System (SLS) liquid hydrogen tank be tested to it's limits! WPE's corporate parent North Alabama Fabricating Company, Inc. detailed and fabricated the structural steel for the test stand.

The test was explosively successful.

Tube galleries designed by Wolf Point and fabricated by NAFCO erected in Wisconsin in June for a frac sand mine overland conveyor. The conveyor is 48" wide and a mile long. These tubes span over a wetland where the Contractor had to have as small of a construction footprint as possible. One span is 200 feet long. WPE also designed the conveyor and h-pile foundations.

Project Announcement:
On June 28, 2017, North Alabama Fabricating Company signed a contract with Fermi Research Alliance LLC at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory to design, fabricate and deliver a 3,900 foot long pipe conveyor handling 2"x0" rock at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, for the Long Baseline Neutrino Facility program.
Wolf Point Engineers and Contractors, A Division of North Alabama Fabricating Company will execute the design and supply of the pipe conveyor system for this very exciting project!
