Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Founded in 1954, The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) is a technical institute for the precast concrete structures and systems industry.

PCI develops, maintains, and disseminates the Body of Knowledge for the design, fabrication, and construction of precast concrete structures and systems. For Pine Rest Pediatric Center, officials sought a structural system that could support the requirements of institutional use while maintaining a quality finish on both the interior and exterior. Utilizing a solution of precast concrete, produced by Fabcon, this projects design centers around the concept of a treehouse. The building has a combination of thin brick embedded into the panels, a ‘tree bark’ formliner with integral color, and smooth panels with a painted pattern, helping to evoke the soothing & therapeutic aspects of nature while also expressing a playfulness that would appeal to children. Parque La Plancha, a 50-acre public space in Mérida, was designed to blend history, culture, and recreation. This project pays homage to Mérida’s history and simultaneously looks to the future, all while helping to mitigate the heat island effect caused by the city’s urbanization. Precast concrete was chosen because of its ability to achieve both architectural expression and structural performance. This project has become a landmark that enhances quality of life and strengthens community identity.
