We’re excited to see our recent project with Kwong Von Glinow for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago featured in AN Interior! From the vaulted acoustical plaster ceiling and curved wall bracing to the terrazzo flooring and integrated Luftwerk artwork, every detail was designed to create movement and openness while honoring the building’s historic character.

Can you believe this space was once a bank? BAMtheatre's transformation in Westmont is well underway! With the plywood for the seating down, we will soon add the flooring and install the theater seating to bring this incredible new venue to life. From a bank to a cultural hub, it's exciting to see this space taking shape as we approach BAMtheatre's opening this spring!

Helios is partnering with our client in Crete, IL, to convert a former senior living facility into a specialized memory care community. Our work involves adding and reconfiguring units, as well as a complete modernization of the aging mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, which deteriorated due to lack of maintenance.

An essential part of this transformation has been converting the outdated pneumatic control system to a modern direct digital control (DDC) system, which will enhance our client's energy efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and provide better climate control throughout the facility. Our team's ability to assist in troubleshooting the MEP repairs has allowed us to fast-track the project.

We are looking forward to completing this work in the spring!

2324 West Fulton Street has been Helios Construction Services’ home for over a decade, and we’re proud of the transformation we led to restore this former foundry into a modern, sustainable space. While it’s bittersweet to move on, we couldn’t ask for a better next chapter for the building than supporting the incredible work of Special Olympics Illinois.

As for our next moves, we’re embracing flexibility as we move into a building near the Loop and another office in the western suburbs. Our two offices will give our team the space and adaptability we need for the future and even more flexibility for meeting client needs.

We’re thrilled to share our new Path to Zero blog, detailing our collaboration to design and build a 53,000 SF highly efficient manufacturing facility. We’re set to break ground this spring, and we’re excited to share the inner workings of this unique project and how we got here.

We are pleased to share photos of our recent partnership with Living for their second U.S. location. After building the core and shell for the landlord, Helios was given the opportunity to build a contemporary retail space for this renowned Australian furniture brand.

Designed by Stantec, the showroom offers an open layout, striking graphics, intricate millwork, and expansive windows that beautifully illuminate the space in the bustling Clybourn Corridor.

How do you breathe life into an old bank? Helios has successfully transformed old banks into new, exciting community spaces, and we are excited to do it again! A regional bank in Westmont recently downsized to a smaller branch, leaving behind a two-story building. Our client, , was planning on expanding into their own venue, and our team saw this building as a chance to create something truly special.

Helios partnered with BAMtheatre from the beginning, helping to identify the ideal location, evaluate multiple sites, and manage everything from preconstruction to construction. Construction has recently commenced, and we are thrilled to be part of their vision, working to convert this building into a modern, one-of-a-kind venue. Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for their opening night in early 2025!

Helios has been working in high-end retail for 15 years, and we’ve learned that every retail client is unique, even down to their preferences for project management tools. In addition to our typical reality capture and coordination tools, we are using HoloBuilder to document progress with a client and design team scattered between the US and Europe. In addition to documenting progress, we are leveraging HoloBuilder with Revit to coordinate our work with the client’s international stone and millwork vendors. Whether we’re quickly adopting new software or delivering highly detailed and complicated projects, we strive to be adaptable to our clients’ operational needs.

Helios is excited to share our recent collaboration with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Kwong Von Glinow on a residential hall lobby renovation project. One of these lobbies is a Landmark status, and all finishes must match the original construction design.

One of the highlights is this vibrant art installation by local studio Luftwerk. Our team worked closely with them to design a custom niche and integrated a light ring to make the artwork stand out. The lobby also boasts terrazzo flooring, curved walls installed with curved bracing, and a radius barrel acoustical plaster ceiling system.

Given the intensive terrazzo installation process (nobody could walk in the space for 10 days!), we phased the work to ensure minimal disruption for students and staff. We're proud of how this project is coming together and are excited to share more once the millwork is installed!
