Water Conservationist of the Year – Wally Iman
Wally retired in 2024 after a distinguished career in environmental real estate and stream and wetland mitigation. He founded Mitico, a Missouri-based environmental services company that specializes in Clean Water Act mitigation. Over the past 15 years, Mitico has successfully completed 17 stream and wetland restoration projects across Missouri, restoring nearly 15 miles of in-stream and riparian areas, and over 280 acres of wetlands. These projects prevent over 100,000 tons of sediment from entering Missouri's streams each year. Even in retirement, Wally continues in an executive role, with three new projects slated for 2025, including the company’s first out-of-state project.
Before Mitico, Wally worked in environmental real estate, connecting conservation minded landowners with sensitive land tracts, impacting over 12,000 acres in Missouri. His efforts also helped enroll agricultural land in the Wetland Reserve Program, converting it to wetlands.
Wally is a strong advocate for clean water policies and has served on an Ad Hoc Committee for the CFM, contributing to a national resolution on the Clean Water
Rule. He frequently testifies and advocates for clean water issues at the Missouri legislature. A dedicated mentor and leader, Wally’s contributions have made a significant and lasting impact on water conservation and environmental restoration in Missouri.
