The Nano and Emerging Technologies Club (NExT - where the ’x’ denotes the inherent cross disciplinary nature of these areas) works toward its vision of promoting nano and emerging technologies through events and activities that include:

• A monthly seminar series
• Annual Faculty/Student Research Mixer (with nanoSTAR Institute)
• Student-led projects
• University, industry and national laboratory

facility tours
• Networking opportunities with faculty and industry representatives
• Annual Graduate Student Roundtable dinner
• Outreach to local schools


Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization, which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.

National Nanotechnology Day featured a series of community-led events and activities on or around October 9th to help to raise awareness of nanotechnology, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. This date, 10/9, pays homage to the nanometer scale, 10^(-9) meters.

NExT held an event which was promoted by the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office:

100 Billion Nanometer Dash, a challenge to run (equal to 100 meters) and upload the video

Prizes included NExT merchandise and Bodo's bagels for the top 5 runners.
