Join us in celebrating Craft Spirits Week, June 21–27! 🥃🍸🍹

We encourage everyone to support their local craft distilleries and the passionate makers behind the spirits we love!

Featured here are photos from Boatman Spirits Co. in Raleigh, North Carolina. They rely on a complete Deutsche distilling setup to craft exceptional craft spirits for their community and beyond.

Looking forward to connecting with our friends in partners in the industry at Institute’s conference in Miami, August 18-19, booth 338.

Cheers!

Westbrooks Brewery in Essex County, UK, had a very specific project charge: build a brewhouse around low-carb, low-calorie, gluten-free, and sugar-free beers that could be brewed consistently, canned efficiently, and shipped direct to customers.

That meant the system had to be engineered to meet their unique process challenges. This Deutsche system is a 45 hL production brewhouse with a unique vessel configuration. Because Westbrooks’ beers are built around lighter, smaller grain bills, the brewhouse uses a 35 hL mash/lauter tun feeding a 45 hL kettle/whirlpool. The cellar was sized around that final 45 hL kettle capacity, with 45 hL tanks supported by 90 hL hot and cold liquor tanks.

The system includes a cooling calandria, giving the Westbrooks team the ability to knock the entire kettle temperature down to what their recipe demands. The brewhouse also features the full suite of Deutsche standard automation, including liquor tank autofill, transfer automation, auto knockout, wort grant automation, and blending automation. The controls also feature a newer automation type, spunding automation, allowing the main vent arm to open automatically at a set point so the spunding process can begin at a specific time.

From an engineering and brewing perspective, this kind of configuration takes careful planning. Brewing vessels, cellar capacity, and automation all have to work together in order to produce the worldclass quality of product that customers of Westbrooks have come to expect.

We’re excited to be exhibiting at the Membrane Technology Forum! Stop by Booth 10 (June 15-17, Minneapolis) to connect with Deutsche Beverage + Process, part of Middleby, and talk with our team about filtration and deaeration solutions for food and beverage production.

Are you looking to improve product quality, consistency, or process performance? You may not think deaeration or filtration is necessary for your product or process, but there are often places where the right filtration setup can make a real difference. It can help improve clarity, remove unwanted materials, protect downstream equipment, and support a more consistent finished product.

If you’re not already incorporating filtration or deaeration into your process, it may be worth looking into. We have a dedicated filtration and deaeration team that's always open to discussing how these systems can fit into your operation.

The photos here are from a recent deaeration test conducted at our Charlotte, NC, headquarters with our filter partner, Thermo Fisher Scientific, during which we achieved dissolved oxygen levels below 20 ppb.

Code Ranch Distillery came to us with a unique need that required a custom solution for their rum distilling process.

Their process called for creating a molasses mixture at high temperatures, then cooling it down quickly and consistently to reach the proper temperature for yeast pitching and fermentation before transferring to the still with an AODD pump.

To support that process, we provided two 150-gallon jacketed mixing tanks on a single skid. Each tank is designed with glycol jackets for controlled cooling and an internal chilled water coil for additional temperature pull-down.

A dedicated 300-gallon cold liquor tank supplies chilled water to the coils, helping the distillery move from hot molasses mixing to fermentation-ready temperatures.
A compact, purpose-built system designed to support molasses preparation, controlled cooling, yeast pitching, and the start of rum production.

We’ve made a few key upgrades to our Pneumatic Barrel Dump Trough, designed for safe, single-operator barrel emptying.

New enhancements include a dedicated lowering arm for smoother barrel offloading, locking casters, AODD pump mounting plate, locking and lifting casters, forklift channels, and reinforced filter catch trays with extra support for improved durability.

See it in person at ADI Craft Spirits Conference & Vendor Expo in Miami, August 18–19, at Booth 338. Stop by and talk with our team about improving safety, efficiency, and workflow in your distilling and barrel handling process.

Westbrooks Brewery in Essex County, UK, is now brewing on their new Deutsche 45 hL production brewhouse.

Westbrooks has a unique mission: bringing low-carb, low-calorie, gluten-free, and sugar-free beer options to the UK with a direct-to-consumer model. Richard and the Westbrook’s team came into the project with a clear business model, a focused beer portfolio, and most importantly, a strong conviction in delivering their worldclass product to their country. Deutsche’s job was to help turn that dream into reality. This started by working together to design an efficient production environment, optimizing the project in every phase. From brewhouse design and tank layout, from automation, utilities coordination, and commissioning, to the ongoing support that comes with running a production facility, this project was about more than just delivering equipment. It was about building the right partnership to make good on Westbrook’s vision.

When a customer is building something new, responsive project management and practical brewing experience make all the difference. Richard understood this and knew that building a production brewery requires the right technical partners. As a business owner, he knew he did not need to personally know every detail of the equipment installation, utilities, controls, wiring, and startup. But he did know he needed a partner he could depend on to help guide the process and stay with him through the details. When Westbrooks started canning with a Wild Goose Gosling in 2024, moving into an Evolution series canning line, and now brewing on a complete Deutsche brewhouse and cellar, The Middleby Brewing & Distilling Solutions Group has proven time and again to be just that partner.

Congratulations to Richard and the entire Westbrooks Brewery team, we’re proud to be part of their story and excited to see where this next chapter takes them. Get you some!
