Our Story

Bay Shore Steel Works is a Michigan-based company and now a division of Grand Traverse Economic Development. The company was founded in 1960, and for much of our history we specialized in bulk material handling and processing equipment. When we became certified for U.S. military work, we shifted our focus to the fabrication of vehicle armor. We have been a key supplier of armor plate components for the Stryker Assault Vehicle and the M1 Abrams tank. In 2019, Bay Shore Steel was purchased by Grand Traverse Economic Development, the economic arm of the Grand Traverse Ottawa and Chippewa Band of Indians. Bay Shore Steel’s material focus is on military and other applications. Today, we offer complete design, engineering, fabricating, machining and finishing services from a 45,000-square-foot facility just yards away from Lake Michigan and across the road from one of Michigan’s premiere golf resorts.
