What makes a timber bridge strong enough to carry up to 80,000 pounds? 🤔

The answer is stress lamination.

Individual timber boards are placed on edge, side by side, then compressed together using high-tensile stainless steel rods that run through the entire bridge deck. As the rods are tightened, they create tremendous pressure that causes all of the boards to act as one solid structural slab.

The result? A durable, dependable bridge designed to handle demanding applications, including AASHTO HS-20 (80,000 lb.) loading.
