We were at the local high school career fair last week.

Today we are mourning the loss of a very special lady.

Our long time Office Manager at Smith Metal Products (since 2006) passed away. Marge was seemingly a permanent fixture at the front desk at Smith Metal Products. She enjoyed her time at work until her retirement earlier this year.

After her retirement, customers, vendors and even delivery drivers inquired about her. She made everyone feel important.

Marge had a fierce love for the Vikings and enjoyed the rivalry with the Packers fans at Smith. She often wore purple and talked about the Vikings whenever opportunity presented. Marge was not a fair weather fan. Even if the Vikings were not playing to her standards, she still loved them (however, she had suggestions on how they should have played).

More than her love of the Vikings, Marge will be remembered for her warmth and kindness. She arrived early in the morning, ready to lend an ear to anyone that needed it.

Always a hard worker, she was willing to tackle any task, even if it was unfamiliar to her. She loved learning and went back to school in her 50s to earn an Associates Degree after her kids had grown.

Marge will certainly missed by the family she loved so much, but she will also be missed at Smith Metal Products.

Rest easy, Marge. You will not be forgotten.

Plastic Products Company (Smith's parent company) is based in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Our coffee pot water tower in Lindstrom steams twice a day (10am and 3pm) to correspond with Swedish Fika.

However, it is shutting down for the year on October 15th.

Don't worry, you can see it again in April.

Marlene Smith (who owned Plastic Products Company at the time) had the idea to turn the water tower into the World's Largest Swedish Coffee Pot. She also funded the project, which was completed in 1993.

Over time, the coffee pot stopped steaming, and the community raised funds to have it repaired to steam again. In 2025, the steam returned and is a daily reminder of Marlene Smith.
