ICON Engineering, Inc. was founded in January 1997 as a locally owned and operated consulting engineering firm.

ICON is a Colorado-based civil engineering firm founded in 1997 specializing in stormwater, stream, floodplain, master planning, parks, trails, and roadway design. Our areas of service include nearly all aspects of civil engineering. We have widely respected capabilities in both public and private sector infrastructure planning, design, and construction management. We are perhaps best known for our expertise in water resources, with primary emphasis in drainage, flood control design, and floodplain mapping activities.

The High Line Canal Stormwater Transition and Management Plan (STAMP) Study entitled “Guiding a Regional Stormwater Transition” received the 2026 APWA Colorado Chapter Award for the Administration category!

ICON collaborated with project partners to assess flood risk and develop prioritized mitigation solutions for the entire 66-miles of the High Line Canal. 27 improvement concepts were created and evaluated across multiple categories (conveyance, bank manipulation, treatment drains, and capacity increases), which were quantified by their effectiveness, estimated costs, and benefits. Our staff also produced risk rankings, conceptual designs, and an interactive GIS tool to help agencies visualize and prioritize projects. In addition, ICON supported coordination with stakeholders and provided guidance on maintenance, permitting, and long term adaptation, helping frame the canal’s transition from an irrigation system to a stormwater management asset.

Congrats to the Mile High Flood District, Southeast Metro Stormwater Authority, High Line Canal Conservancy, and the study team that made this project a success!

The Broomfield Heights Stormwater and Pedestrian Improvement Project received the 2026 APWA Colorado Chapter Award for Sustainability in the Medium-Sized Communities category!

This project successfully integrated floodplain, stormwater, roadway, and pedestrian improvements with community engagement, grant compliance, and strategic construction phasing to minimize impacts to the adjacent Emerald Elementary School. The roadway corridor, sidewalks, and bike lanes were designed to meet ADA requirements, creating safer and more comfortable walking and biking connections to the school while enhancing accessibility, mobility, and overall quality of life throughout the project area. Congrats to the City & County of Broomfield as well as the design team that made this project a success!

ICON’s Jacob Marquez and Elijah Shoulders are presenting this week at Autodesk University 2026: “From Design to Decision: Automating Multimodal Corridors with Civil 3D and Dynamo.”

Their session focuses on how the ICON team used Civil 3D, Dynamo, and automation to streamline the design of the complex 124th Multimodal Improvements project in Thornton, CO. ICON’s Monica Lovato-Ramirez, PE, will be speaking at next week's CASFM conference in Steamboat Springs, CO. She'll go through the design team’s evaluation and rehabilitation design (and the hybrid solution) for two parallel 90-inch diameter corrugated metal pipe storm sewers conveying runoff beneath a heavily trafficked four lane arterial roadway. We had another unforgettable night at Coors Field for our annual Rockies game! From the beautiful evening and exciting game to experiencing the “Glizzilla,” (a massive 23-inch, one-pound all-beef hot dog), our staff had a blast cheering on the home team.

It was the perfect way to step away from the office, enjoy some time together, and build stronger connections as a team. Nothing like a little baseball, fresh air, and friendly competition to make for a great night! 💜⚾️
