“Every small business starts with someone willing to take a chance on an idea.”

A big welcome to Old Icehouse Mercantile in Hessel!

Entrepreneurship takes guts—especially in a small community. New businesses bring new ideas, new energy, and another reason for people to shop and stay local.

And a BIG thank you to Old Icehouse for making us these awesome Ritchie’s keychains and coasters! We love seeing local businesses doing business with other local businesses.

From one small business to another, we know the hours are long, the to-do list never ends, and somehow you’re always working even when you’re “not working.” 😂

Best of luck to Old Icehouse on this new adventure. We’re excited to have you as part of the Les Cheneaux business community!

Small businesses supporting small businesses. That’s how small towns stay strong.

🚨 WAREHOUSE UPDATE 🚨

We put a NEW RACK in the warehouse, and naturally the first thing that came to mind was Step Brothers…

“SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!” 😂

More importantly… more room for PRODUCT.

We’re continuing to expand what we carry, especially lumber, building materials and the everyday stuff that saves you a trip out of town.

So what should we bring in next? 👇

Contractor supplies? Electrical? Plumbing? More lumber? Something we’re missing?

And yes… we hear you, sweatshirt crowd. 👀😂

We’ve only got so much room, and our first priority is being a better hardware store.

That said… we didn’t say never on the sweatshirts. 😏

⚡ ATTENTION LOCAL ELECTRICIANS! ⚡

Big news. HUGE news.

2-1/2" & 3" Insulating Bushings and Terminal Adapters are NOW ON THE SHELF at Ritchie’s.

Electricians: 🤩 FINALLY.

Everyone else: 😐 I have absolutely no idea what any of those words mean.

That’s okay. This post isn’t for you. 😂

Electricians — come get ’em.
Everyone else — we also have snacks.

😢 SAD TIME OF YEAR… CLOSING UP THE COTTAGES & CABINS.

Boats come out. Water gets shut off. Fridges get emptied. And the critters start looking for their winter Airbnb. 🐭

NEW ITEM IN STOCK — MATTRESS STORAGE BAGS!

Before you close up for the season, cover those mattresses and help keep the dust, dirt and unwanted little winter guests away.

Because opening the cottage in May is exciting…

Finding out a family of mice spent the winter in your mattress? Not so much. 😂

Stop in and grab a mattress storage bag before you lock up for the season!

❄️ WINTER HOURS ARE BACK ❄️

Apparently getting up early is a summer problem. 😂

MONDAY – SATURDAY
🕗 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

But winter hours definitely don’t mean we’re slowing down…

🚚 TWO TRUCKS A WEEK — ALL WINTER LONG!

Need something we don’t have?

👉 ORDER BY MONDAY AT 11 AM → HERE TUESDAY
👉 ORDER BY WEDNESDAY AT 11 AM → HERE THURSDAY

That’s pretty darn quick for an island in the U.P. 😂

So before you automatically promote yourself to a Petoskey shopping trip, ASK US.

Our resources have grown, we can get a lot more than what you see on the shelves, and there’s a pretty good chance we can save you the drive.

Winter hours. Two trucks a week. Still hustling. ❄️🚚

Terrible news for our Les Cheneaux community today.

Snow’s Bar & Grill has been a staple of this community for generations. It’s one of those places that’s simply part of LCI — a gathering place filled with memories, stories, friendships, and familiar faces.

Seeing a longtime local establishment suffer a loss like this is heartbreaking.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our local firefighters and first responders who acted quickly and answered the call. We’re incredibly fortunate to have people willing to drop everything when our community needs them.

Our thoughts are with everyone at Snow’s and all those affected.

Snow’s is part of LCI, and LCI takes care of its own.

🍂 AND JUST LIKE THAT… WE SHIFT INTO FALL MODE. 🔨❄️

And we're not just helping with your fall projects — we've got a few of our own.

We're moving things around in the warehouse and making more room for an expanded selection of lumber and building materials. 🪵🔨

We're focusing on smaller projects, repairs, weekend jobs and DIY projects — having more of what you need right here in Cedarville.

And here's something we can't say enough:

👉 ALWAYS ASK US.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean we can't get it. Our resources and supplier network have grown tremendously, and we're able to source a whole lot more than what we can physically fit in the store.

Need something odd? Ask us.
Need a building material we don't stock? Ask us.
Need a specific product for a project? Definitely ask us.

👕 Ritchie’s T-shirts and sweatshirts?
Yeah… you can ask.

Most likely still no. 😂

Meanwhile, winter prep is already starting:

🔥 Pipe insulation — IN STOCK
🥶 Antifreeze — IN STOCK
⚡ Generators — WE CAN GET ’EM
❄️ More winterizing supplies arriving

So if you hear some banging around in the warehouse or see us moving things that haven't moved in years… there is a plan. We promise. 😂

More lumber. More building materials. More resources.

If you don't see it — ASK US. We might surprise you.

☀️ AWFUL WEATHER OUT THERE TODAY… ☀️

Absolutely GORGEOUS. 😂

Just a friendly reminder that Ritchie’s Hardware is OPEN today until 5:30 PM!

Stop in, grab whatever you need for the weekend, say hi, grab some popcorn… and then get back outside and enjoy this terrible, terrible weather. 😎

🔴 OPEN SATURDAY until 5:30 PM
🔴 CLOSED SUNDAY & MONDAY

Have a great Labor Day weekend from all of us at Ritchie’s Hardware! 🇺🇸

Seriously… get outside. Days like this are on borrowed time in the U.P. 😂

🇺🇸 LABOR DAY WEEKEND HOURS 🇺🇸

Well… somehow we blinked and another Les Cheneaux summer is coming to an end. 😳

Seems like just yesterday we were stocking grass seed, potting soil and grilling supplies… and now somebody is going to walk in asking where the snow shovels are. 😂❄️

SATURDAY: OPEN 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
SUNDAY: CLOSED
LABOR DAY MONDAY: CLOSED

Yep — the Ritchie’s crew is getting TWO DAYS OFF.
Please don’t panic.
The nuts, bolts, screws and thingamajigs will all still be here Tuesday. 🔩😂

It’s been one heck of a summer, and we owe a huge THANK YOU to our year-round customers, summer residents, contractors, boaters, DIYers and everyone who came through our doors — including those of you who walked in holding a broken mystery part and said:

“I need another one of these.”

No box.
No part number.
No idea what it’s called.

Challenge accepted. 😂

Thank you for shopping local, supporting our crew, drinking our coffee, eating our popcorn and keeping us on our toes all summer long.

Enjoy Labor Day weekend, be safe, and squeeze every last drop out of summer.

See you Tuesday — rested, recharged and ready to identify more thingamajigs. 😎🔧
