Loose tolerance: fast. Tight tolerance: more time and money.

Both are correct when applied to the right feature.

The mistake is applying ±0.001" (tight tolerance) to everything on your drawing. Tight tolerances require slower cutting speeds, more setups, and more inspection. If a surface doesn't couple, locate, seal, or support load, a standard tolerance works just as well and costs less to machine.

Keep in mind: function determines tolerance.
