Using chopped carbon fiber in the concrete mix to conduct electricity to evenly heat pavement

Engineers are testing heated pavement technologies at the Des Moines International Airport. They've installed two test slabs of electrically conductive concrete. And the pavement has effectively cleared ice and snow.

Geotechnical Engineering is the art of molding materials we do not wholly understand -
Into shapes we cannot precisely analyze -
So as to withstand forces we cannot really assess -
In such a way that the community-at-large has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance.

Prince Engineering, PLC has been selected as the specialist to design the reinforcing for a 260,000 gallon concrete tank solely using Basalt FRP reinforcing bars. It will be the first FRP reinforced concrete tank in the United States.

The Lowell, Michigan waste-to-energy project is planning to use rebar made from basalt FRP for the reinforced concrete in its cast-in-place concrete wastewater treatment tanks.

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcing bars have become an accepted, non-corrosive alternative to steel reinforcement in limited concrete structures such as bridge decks and marine structures; however, no use of FRP bars have yet been used solely to reinforce concrete tanks in the U.S.
