There was a blizzard Sunday. In two days, it's supposed to be in the 60s. Yay, Iowa. Will post Spring projects in a couple weeks....unless there's another blizzard.

Finished a stainless piece for a friend. Nothing fancy. I purged the inside to prevent sugaring. I missed out on the chance to use my positioner.

Well, Sorry to have gone dark since this winter. I've been busy. I went back to school in January fulltime. I will be working on several projects this summer, as well as making some creative things to sell. I still have a couple weeks left of class. I'll post updates.

Also, May Day is coming up. It's one of the cooler holidays of the year. Almost as cool as Halloween. When else do you get to ding d**g ditch your family and friends, running away, giggling like an idiot? And, there's CANDY! Good times.

I did not make this cool lawn decoration. I just fix it. Birdy is getting fixed for the 3rd or 4th time. The metal around the original welds rusts out over the years. Birdy is holding on, though. I might try to make a version out of thin stainless.

I ran low on argon. So, I only got to one project.

Current project: Race car repair
Cost: Can of Coke and a hug

My niece made a kickass soap box derby car in school. It suffered a catastrophic injury during the race event. Yeah, it's wood. But, I used welding rod as dowels to reinforce gluing the car together. So, it falls into the realm of Iron Corn. My story and I'm sticking to it.

OK, I made clean cuts on both ends, drilled four holes, fitted the two pieces of rod, glued, pressed. I clamped the car to a piece of scrap steel to keep it aligned while the glue cures. A little sanding and paint will finish it up.

Happy New Year! What's been going on this last month..

Today: The Christmas tree was 'taken down.' It's about two feet high. I put it in a bag and stored it. I had a great nap with my doggo, snuggling for a solid two hours. I installed wheels onto the legs of my (outside) weld table. I welded them up last night.

Last week: I fixed a warped kick-off board for the local YMCA pool. My nieces swim for the Y's swim team (go sharks!). My brother will be paying the bill (a can of coke).

Two weeks ago: Froze my butt off. Most of the country froze their butts off too.

Just an FYI for this winter: If you have a project you would like done, this cold weather limits things. Go ahead and ask; I'll let you know if it's possible. Take care!

PS: My doggy 'establishing dominance' on her big red ball on Dec. 22nd.

It's 19 degrees out and windy. Stay warm.

It's cold and rainy out. I'm thinking about future projects. One such project is a pin and weld of a barrel. If you don't know what that is, lemme edumacate:

Rifles must have 16" barrels. Some people buy a shorter barrel and have a muzzle device or suppressor mounted. That addition makes the barrel atleast 16". The details demon says the muzzle device must be pinned and welded to make the overall length 'permanent' and legal.

Fun fact: the ATF has decided they are going to declare millions of AR and AK style pistols with stabilizing braces as SBR's. That means tens of thousands of citizens become felons overnight (Keeping this post as politically neutral as possible). Many citizens will add a muzzle device to make their barrels legal.
Anyhooo...

It's a simple process if you are a tig welder by trade. What I'm discovering while watching YouTube...the majority of videos showing 'how to' are guys that are definitely not welders. Scalpels don't magically make you a skilled surgeon. Same goes with welding machines. Tig welding....my mind was screaming while watching a couple of these yahoo's.

I look at welds...and fire extinguishers (different story) while out and about. There's a lot of crap welds on products. The product still functions. Having a crap weld on a firearm? Not acceptable.

Cooking your barrel for 15 seconds in one spot because your equipment is wrong and your settings are wrong...that can damage the barrel.

Where was I going with this.... I'm not sure. Gun stores charge hundreds for this service. If you decide to have this done, ask to see some of their work welding things other than a gun. Kinda like a tattoo artist.

That's all. I'm going to make some hot cocoa and play with silicone bronze and cast iron.

Some plasma cutting. More to come. Halloween rocks!

FYI: Maybe a solid minute of cutting. It's quick. But, here's what is needed: Generator for the voltage requirements, good air compressor for the air, filter and water separator for the air, plasma cutter, PPE so you don't get burned or blinded. Also, my super-cereal awesome drawing skills. I'm talking 'Peanut Butter Capt Crunch' level skills. That's one step below 'hold my beer' skills.
