The 2025-2026 school year is almost here! GEM Engineering has a long history with Iron County School District and Southern Utah University. Since our inception in 2005 we have provided services on many schools in ICSD and many buildings on SUU’s campus. We are proud to partner with them to help support K-12 and higher education in our area.

Do you know the soil conditions of your property? One of our services at GEM Engineering is to perform a geotechnical investigation to understand the soil and ground conditions on a property. This is important for several reasons:

1. Foundation Safety – Different types of soil can affect a building’s foundation. A geotechnical investigation helps determine if the ground is stable enough to support a structure or if special foundation work is needed.
2. Preventing Future Problems – Poor soil conditions can lead to issues like sinking, cracking, or shifting of a structure over time. Identifying potential risks early can save money on costly repairs later.
3. Drainage and Flooding Risks – The investigation can reveal if the property has drainage issues that could cause flooding or water damage.
4. Building or Renovation Plans – If the building owner wants to build an addition, a deck, or a pool, knowing the soil conditions ensures the structure will be safe and last a long time.
5. Meeting Local Regulations – Most local areas (including Southern Utah) require a geotechnical investigation before building to ensure safety and compliance with building codes.

Call us today to schedule your geotechnical investigation and make sure your project starts with a good foundation! 435-867-6478 ext. 4

Check out this project GEM worked on! This is Outpost X, a futuristic eco-lodge right here in Southern Utah!

GEM performed a geotechnical investigation, designed the septic system, performed materials testing, and completed the gravel road pavement design.
