Working on this 6080 in our service dept this week. The main customer complaint is hard starting in warm weather. We replaced the fuel line seals and the leaking throttle shaft seal to eliminate them as a contributing factor. We removed the injectors to pop test them since the tractor has many hours on. 3 out of the 4 injectors had a bad spray pattern and were 1000 psi lower than the spec. We tested the compression and got around 300psi at cranking speed, should be around 400.
The customer authorized us to proceed with reman injectors, renewing the valve protrusion back to spec in the cylinder head and installing the glow plugs in the intake.

Our service dept is keeping busy with only Allis tractor repairs! The D17 power director clutch and gears replacement was completed on Monday. Now the loader has to go back on.
The WD45 paint job final assembly and touch up is completed, only need to install the piggyback regulator for the 12v system when it comes in and decals yet.
The 175 block heater went bad this winter, so a new one was installed and now that is out for sale again.

Lastly, another 6080 is next up in the shop, customer complaint is hard starting, along with some minor complaints. Customer states having to crank more than 30 seconds before it fires up at 70 degrees out. We'll check out the fuel system, timing and other simple things before looking into more expensive solutions.

A&W Tractor is looking for a full or part time mechanic for a position in our growing Allis-Chalmers dealer at our Cecil, WI location.

The ideal candidate is energetic, logical, comfortable working alone and with assistance, and knows their way around hand and power tools. The ideal candidate will have 3 yrs experience with 1930s-1980s A-C tractors/equipment.

Skills required:
-Diagnose & repair problems on 1930s - 1980s tractors with assistance from factory service manuals.
-Diagnose & solve problems on your own.
-Read, understand & follow procedures outlined in service manuals.
-Self motivated
-Ability to keep parts, tools and work area organized
-Adjust carburetors and distributor timing
-Knowledge of and ability to diagnose hydraulic systems
-Knowledge of and ability to diagnose DC electrical systems
-Knowledge of transmission and driveline systems
-Experience repairing Lawn & Garden equipment desirable but not required

The back half of the D17 repair is completed. The power director clutch is rebuilt with new plates and discs, new preload plates and new rollers. New seals are installed on the top input shaft and the bottom PTO shaft.
The torque tube side presented more problems once the shafts and gears were removed. We had proceeded expecting to replace the bearings to tighten up the excessive end play in the shafts and bearings. All of the gears removed has rust pitting on the teeth! This makes for excessive noise in the gear train and structurally weakens the teeth. After a call to the customer to recommend replacement of the gears as well, he agreed with our recommendation and we installed a good used set of gears. The l**e pump intake screen was MIA and we found the remnants inside the hollow shaft bearing! A new suction screen was pulled off the shelf and the tractor is ready to become one again!

Engine runs great, starts great, no odd noises, no coolant in the oil.
Hydraulic pump is good, 1900 psi at remote outlets, power steering steers smooth with 1 finger.
