Summer is usually a little slower for us, but not this year.

We stayed busier than usual throughout the summer, helping restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores keep their equipment up and running.

We’re grateful for every customer who called us, every repeat customer who continues to trust us, and every person who recommended Gulf Coast Equip Care to someone else.

For a small, locally owned company, that support means a lot.

Thank you for keeping us busy. We appreciate it more than you know.

⚠️ Possible scam targeting local businesses

We received a suspicious sales call today from a woman identifying herself as “Christy Parson.” She represented herself as being affiliated with the Pearl River Central High School boys varsity basketball program and said she was soliciting sponsors for a booster program.

She claimed the program would design and print T-shirts featuring local business logos, that cheerleaders would distribute the shirts at 10 home basketball games, and that the PA announcer would recognize our company as a sponsor during the games.

She offered the full back of the shirt for our logo and quoted:

• $644 for six dozen shirts
• $464 for three dozen shirts

She also said we would receive the right of first refusal for annual renewal.

The call came from a North Richland Hills, Texas number. After researching the number and this type of solicitation, it appears it may be connected to a company called Spirit Star, which has been associated with similar questionable school sponsorship solicitations in other communities.

She did not identify Spirit Star or any outside company during the call. She presented the offer as though she were directly connected to the PRCHS basketball program.

Has anyone else in the area received this call? Does anyone know whether Pearl River Central or an authorized booster organization is actually involved?

At this point, we believe this may be a scam or an unauthorized and misleading solicitation. Local businesses should verify any offer like this directly with the school before providing money, artwork, or business information.

Commercial fryer pilot keeps going out?

This is one of the more common fryer problems we see in restaurant kitchens.

A lot of people immediately think it’s a bad thermopile, dirty pilot, or gas valve issue. Sometimes it is. But another common cause is the high limit thermostat.

The high limit is a safety control that shuts the fryer down if the oil temperature gets too high. Most fryers use a small sensing bulb and capillary tube to read temperature. That small tube is easy to damage, especially during aggressive cleaning or boil-out.

If the capillary tube gets kinked, crushed, bent, or the bulb gets knocked out of place, the fryer may start shutting down over and over again.

Common symptoms include:

The pilot lights but won’t stay lit
The fryer shuts off during service
The pilot has to be relit several times a day
The fryer works for a while, then drops out again
The problem started after heavy cleaning or boil-out

A few things kitchen managers can safely check:

Look at the pilot flame. It should be strong and steady.
Make sure the fryer flue is not blocked.
Compare the oil temperature to the fryer setting.
Think about whether the issue started after cleaning.
Visually check for obvious damage, but don’t bend or move the capillary tube.

And most importantly, don’t bypass the high limit or keep relighting a fryer that keeps shutting itself down.

That high limit is there for a reason.

Clean the fryer, but be careful around the safety components. A little caution during cleaning can save a lot of downtime later.

If your commercial fryer keeps shutting down, Gulf Coast Equip Care can help diagnose the issue and get it back in service safely.

Today, our nation marks a historic milestone: America’s 250th anniversary.

For 250 years, America’s story has been shaped by people willing to serve something bigger than themselves. Few embody that spirit more than our military community, whose members and families have defended our nation, protected our freedoms, and sacrificed in ways many will never fully see.

As a veteran-owned company, Independence Day means more to us than fireworks. It is a time to pause, reflect, and appreciate what has been given for this country.

We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

Gulf Coast Equip Care will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day.

We’re taking the day to spend time with family, slow down for a bit, and appreciate the freedoms we’re fortunate to have.

To our customers across Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, thank you for your continued support.

We’ll be back to our normal schedule the following business day.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day.

“It’s Not Always Broken”

Not every service call starts with equipment completely broken down.

Sometimes it’s an oven running 25 degrees off.

Sometimes it’s a fryer taking longer than it used to.

Sometimes it’s a mixer making a noise that wasn’t there last week.

Sometimes it’s a scale that just needs to be checked before it becomes a problem.

Those are the calls we like to catch early.

Because in a restaurant, bakery, or grocery store, a small issue doesn’t stay small for long. It usually waits until the worst possible time to become expensive.

If something doesn’t sound right, heat right, weigh right, or feel right, it’s worth having it looked at before it shuts you down.

That’s what we do.

Commercial cooking equipment. Bakery equipment. Supermarket equipment. Retail scales and wrappers.

One of the hardest things for a small business to learn is that you can't be everything to everyone.

Over the years we've gotten calls for refrigeration, residential appliances, tractors, wheelchairs and all sorts of things that fall outside our wheelhouse.

The truth is we'd rather tell someone "that's not what we do" than pretend to be experts at everything.

We focus on commercial cooking equipment, bakery equipment, supermarket equipment, and retail scales.

Staying in our lane allows us to do those things well.

Sometimes the best service you can provide is being honest about what you don't do.

A lot has changed in the commercial kitchen equipment service industry over the last few years.

Many familiar service companies across the country have been acquired by large investment groups and rolled into national organizations. In many cases, the original company name stays the same, so most customers never notice the change.

There's nothing inherently wrong with that. It's just the direction much of the industry has gone.

Gulf Coast Equip Care took a different path.

We're still locally owned. Still veteran owned. Still operated by the same people who answer the phone, schedule the work, and show up to solve problems in the field.

When you call us, you're not reaching a corporate office in another region. You're talking to people who work in the same communities you do and who understand the challenges local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores face every day.

We're not the biggest company in the industry.

We're just trying to be the most dependable one for the customers who trust us.

Thank you for supporting local business.

There are moments in the life of a nation that ask us to pause.

Memorial Day is one of them.

It is a day to remember those who gave their lives in military service, and the families who carry that loss forward. Their sacrifice made possible the freedoms we live with every day, and we carry that responsibility with humility and respect.

That is why this day matters to us.

Today, we pause. We remember.

We’ll be closed this Memorial Day.

Not many in our line of work are, but maybe more should. 🇺🇸

Around here, things don’t really slow down. But this is one day we believe is worth stepping away for.

As a veteran-owned company, this day carries a little extra weight for us. It’s about remembering those who gave everything and never made it home.

We’ll be back at it the next day.
