Shared for informational purposes to bring awareness to our community.
I want to thank everyone who gave part of their Thursday to join us for Commissioners Court this morning, and express their thoughts, suggestions, and opinions during the public hearing about the proposed update to the boat ramp order.
Eighteen of y'all worked up the courage to speak and address the Court, and many, many more of y'all came in support of your fellow friends and residents. Many of y'all brought up wonderful points that we, as a body, should take to heart and consider when taking these types of actions.
I wholeheartedly agree with y'all that public input needs to be considered (y'all are much more than a "legality" in my opinion!), and I think a committee is a really great idea.
After coming out of Executive Session, Commissioner Eccleston (who is the one who made the proposal to begin with) made a motion to table it until June 24 (two weeks). It will be on the agenda again at that time.
I hope that in the meantime, she takes your input into consideration, as well as the ramifications of the updated order...and the unintended consequences that will result from it.
Like many of you, I did not find out about it or see what was being proposed until this past weekend when the agenda was published.
Seeing how there are also County boat ramps in my precinct, and this affects so many people in so many ways, I was definitely not on board with the action as it was proposed, nor the means of how it was presented.
I hope there is a better plan for Round 2.
