Did you know...
A leaky toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day, which is more than 6,000 gallons per month. This can lead to a significant increase in a family's water bill.
Some common causes of toilet leaks include:
Worn-out flappers: The rubber parts that seal the tank from the bowl can decay over time, allowing water to leak into the bowl.
Improperly set float arm: This can cause water to constantly flow down the overflow/refill tube.
Leaks can be difficult to detect because they can be silent and intermittent. Some toilets may make a running water sound, while others may have a small trickle running from the rim to the water in the bowl.
To save water, you can consider:
Replacing the flapper with a water-saving replacement.
Replacing the fill valve with a piston-valve type fill valve.
Installing a high-efficiency toilet.
We offer Fluidmaster Toilet Tank Leak Detector Tablets at no charge. To test your toilet for a leak, take the lid off the toilet tank and place a blue dye tablet inside. Wait 15 to 20 minutes for the coloring to spread through the tank. After the time is up, look on the inside of a toilet bowl, not the tank. If there is blue coloring in the bowl, then there's an issue with the plumbing.
