So sad to hear of Jeff’s passing. A strong member of our business community for generations. Condolences to his family.

As I’ve mentioned before, I grew up at the firehouse. My dad became a volunteer when I was five, and having an extended family there was always one of the benefits I appreciated most.

In the mid-80s, we moved to Cambridge, and it wasn’t long before I met Jeff Hurley. It was clear from the start that he was a natural leader. By the time I was old enough to join RFC, he was already Chief. I have countless stories of our interactions and things I observed over the years, but what he did for me in recent years holds the most meaning.

Several years ago, on a particularly rough day running this page, I posted that I had thought about quitting. One of the first comments came from Jeff: "Quitting isn’t in your blood." He was 100% correct, and that reminder still comes to mind often. He also shared some very comforting words about my dad when he passed.

That’s what leaders do—they take care of their people, always.

It was my honor to serve the community under his leadership. Observing him taught me more than any class ever could.

I find comfort in the thought that he is reunited with his daughter.

My condolences to all his family, friends and the members of Rescue Fire Company.

Chief Jeff Hurley Sr. may you rest in peace. Thank you!
