One ring to rule them all?

Ring-shaped beams are a very powerful tool in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). Our recent article in highlights the various benefits of our AFX laser. Significantly faster printing, drastically lower part cost, improved material properties - all of these across various metals. We greatly appreciate the extensive research performed by Aconity3D GmbH, Technical University of Munich, Fraunhofer ILT, and Fraunhofer IAPT.

Fiber beam shaping plays a key role on the path to laser powder-bed fusion for additive manufacturing of metals.

Our Annual BBQ returned this year, and it was a blast!

Cylindrical battery cells in electric vehicles have several safety protection devices. PTCs (pressure, temperature, current switches) and CIDs (current interrupt devices) prevent over-charge, over-current, over-temperature, and over-pressure events from uncontrolled failure or rupture of the cell. These devices are assembled into the cap of the cell by laser welding the assembly together using nLIGHT's single mode fiber lasers. In this video from Rayxion, the battery cap is welded by nLIGHT's 1kW air-cooled single mode laser for a water-free laser installation.
